Star Riser and Turbo Booster

Star Riser and Turbo Booster

Whew - I'm so glad we went to try out some car seats in the store before we bought. As I type with a bandaged finger...I acually injured myself trying to adjust the height of the Star Riser - it was sooooo not easy to do. No comparison to the ease and convenience of the Turbo Booster adjuster. We were also not impressed with how floppy the Star Riser back was, and our son was most enamored of the cup holders on the Turbo Booster. Turbo Booster wins hands down with us. That is, before we even come to the price, which is only about half what the Star Riser would have cost us....

I have both. I prefer the Starriser.

The back is MEANT to be floppy (i thought it was terribly flimsy at first, but now i understand), so it rides down the crash with the child better, ensuring the shoulderbelt remains properly in place the whole time. Also, it costs more, but it will last much longer. I've read numerous complaints from parents of older, larger children who find the Turbo too be far too shallow and narrow to be comfortable, but who find the Starriser to be much more comfortable (remember, kids need to be in boosters till at least age 8 and 4'9", and often till age 10 or 12, before the adult seatbelt fits them properly and will protect them adequately in a crash). The SRC is also adjustable by width, and can more easily fit next to another seat. I do agree that the Turbo is MUCH more easy to adjust, heightwise, which would be handy if it's used for multiple children, but my seats are used only by my son, and I've so far only had to adjust the SRC one time in 6 months, and it gets easier with a bit of practice. The SRC could stand to have a cupholder, but I've found carseats are like cars...American ones have the bells and whistles, while european ones pride themselves on being "driving machines" (I hate it when DH makes us take his BMW anywhere...NO CUPHOLDERS! lol). Anyway, it's good you have found the best seat to meet your needs. Aren't we lucky we have more choices in seats than we used to?
