Britax-only seat for big kids before booster?

I keep hearing that Britax is the only convertible seat for big kids before the booster. I need a rf and ff seat but don't want my son to outgrow them and need another seat before he is ready for a booster.

But then I run into conflicting info like this:
http://www.epinions.com/Cosco_Alpha_Omega_22_180/display_~full_specs

http://www.epinions.com/Eddie_Bauer_Deluxe_3_in_1_Convertible

Both of these seats are said to be rf or ff and have higher weight and height limits than the Marathon. Does epinions have incorrect info on their site or are their other seats for big kids that will be rf and last until booster?

The harness on those Cosco seats is only up to 40 pounds. Britax is still the only company with harnesses that go to 65 (Marathon/Decathlon/Boulevard) and 80 (Husky) pounds, AND have top harness slots tall enough to get a kid to age 6 and 10 (or so).
Most kids are too tall for the low, low harness slots on the 3-in-1 seats by about age 3, and then the seat must be used as a booster, which is NOT as safe as a harness, particularly for a young kid. Also, 100 pound weight limits on those seats aren't really accurate...most kids are too tall for them by age 7 or so (maybe 50 pounds, and still not big enough for a seatbelt alone)
Hope that helps...

Either version of the Cosco Alpha Omega has really low top slots for FF & also doesn't harness past 40# Not to mention, I've heard it isn't as easy to install or use - it's very wide so it doesn't fit well in tight seating arrangements & the straps twist far too easily. It does have the highest RF weight limit, but my kiddo would have outgrown it's FF height limit over a year before outgrowing it's RF limits - I believe that only very small kids get the full use of this seat (those in like the 5th percentile, LOL). For the $, a Britax Marathon/Decathalon or Wizard/Boulevard is definitely a better buy - for longer lasting safety & ease of use!

That is, small percentile kids in height, and high percentile kids in weight... you might say Stocky, if that's politically correct?

Yeah, exactly, Julie  Would've been OK for my nephew - he's built like a short lumber jack :p But, definitely not for my daughter - she's like a bean pole!
