Triumph or Built in Seat?

Triumph or Built in Seat?

We just bought a new mini van. My 14 month old DD- who weighs JUST the weight limit for the built-in car seat (22 lbs) really seems to prefer the built in seat. I think she finds it less confining.
Until now we have used the Triumph by evenflo (no recalls on this model #), front facing with a tether. She's always cried in the car, no matter what car seat. So I am finding the built in to be less of a distraction from driving and much more peaceful.
I still though would like to know which option is safer for her. She is in a center place in the van.
Anyone have any facts on the built ins- and how they compare to a convertable with a tether? If it makes a difference the van is a 2001 Chrysler T&C.

Thanks!

Re: Triumph or Built in Seat?

The safest option, by far, is to be in the Evenflo Triumph, rear-facing. See: www.car-safety.org/rearface.html . Our DD is now 2 years old and 29 lbs and still rear-facing in our minivan. She's about to outgrow her current carseat's rear-facing limits, but I expect to get another few months at least from the Cosco Triad in our other vehicle.

Front-facing, both models are probably similar, provided they fit your child well and provided the Triumph fits your vehicle well. You might also see questions 14 and 15 of our FAQ, from the link under the top banner or here:

Re: Triumph or Built in Seat?

yes, I have often debated keeping her rear facing, as I have read it is so much safer. She cries an incredible amount when rear facing, and I always found it so distracting to my driving. I have reasoned that my attention being on the road more with her foward facing has to increase the safety for her... however this may be a rationalization.

I will read those links provided, thanks so much!
