Britax Marathon & Thanks for help

First, thanks everyone for your help. From what I read on this site, Britax is the best. Should I get the Britax Marathon? It should be coming to BabiesRUs in the Chicagoland area soon. One store told me that they'll have it in a couple weeks. Is it worth the money? Stupid question - what kind of car seat will she be in when she is over 65 pounds? Thanks again.

Britax may be the best option for some-

If the model you like fits your child and vehicle well, then it will be a safe choice. The Marathon is unique in that it is a convertible with a 65 pound upper weight limit. Some kids will outgrow it by height before 65 pounds, though. It should be a good choice, but there is no guarantee of a good fit.

At 65 pounds, depending on her height, she will still probably need a booster. At that point, even an inexpensive backless booster ($15-$25) is very safe as long as your vehicle has proper head restraints.

If you are in the Chicago area, please visit our "Free Carseat Inspection" link and visit one of our free events in the area. Robert and I routinely volunteer at these events on weekends:)

Well, "best" is subjective...

Britax seats have the most features and are, in my not so humble opinion, the easiest to use on the market. Having spent hundreds of hours researching child passenger safety and reading reviews, as well as having tried my two children in a variety of seats, I've decided that they are the "best" seat for my family.

They are not without drawbacks. They are expensive! If you have to sell your child to afford his car seat, it's not the best seat for you! ;) They've made some questionable customer service decisions, in my opinion. None of those decisions has affected me directly, but I am aware of them, and cautious about future interactions with customer service. (For example, I'll be thoroughly checking my seats for just prior to the end of the 1 year warrantee period to be sure nothing needs to be fixed or replaced.) They've also made some positive changes. For example, they now include two instruction booklets. One is permanently attached to the seat, which means you can't lose it!
