I'm going to be teaching a few classes. I need a bucket for demonstrations. Part of me wants to buy one for $15 from Craigslist or get it free from Freecycle. Another part of me does not want to encourage the sale of unknown-history carseats. WWYD?

Buy the used seat or pick up the free one. Tell the person selling/giving it away what you want it for.
Ask for one on freecycle and tell them why.

Oh, I hate asking on freecycle -- but good idea.

I bought most of my presentation seats on CL. I figure if someone's going to buy them, may as well be me since I won't put a kid in them! Many times I'd explain to the parent that they're expired and unsafe, but I'd be willing to buy it not for use from them for X dollars.

If you were close, I have a perfect SR that was crashed on the way home from the hospital.

Well, for what it would cost me to drive to Oregon, I could buy a Britax Companion (or two!). Thanks, though!

I'd post on Freecycle. "car seat technician needs XYZ seats for training purposes. Contact ______ at _____."

I got all of my 'dangerous no-no!' object lessons on Craigslist.
"Child Passenger Safety Technician needs the following items donated to help teach new parents about child seat safety and what never to do: mitey-tite, car seat protector mat, expired three point infant seat, infant bunting like the BundleMe"
I got all my stuff for free and as a bonus educated all the parents who donated as to why their stuff was not recommended.
