Anybody have any ideas on this? I submitted and got the approval letter from NHTSA to get the passenger airbag turned off in my vehicle, but I had no luck finding a place that does it! The NHTSA website had a list of places to contact, but I called them all and they all say they don't do that. I also called the dealerships in my area and got the same response.
Any ideas on even what kind of shop to call??

What are the circumstances for which you needed the air bag turned off?

You are correct that it's going to be very difficult to find someone to do it.

I would be inclined to try a small, privately owned shop and go there with your NHTSA approval letter in hand. I am imagining you may have better luck speaking, face to face, with an actual person who makes their own decisions, than with a larger, corporate entity type place. But that's just a guess. I don't know whether one needs special training to do this sort of thing or not.

I have always heard that even WITH the approval letter, no one will actually DO it, because of fear of liability. I agree with Mammoycat's idea.

.

Well for a couple of reasons. I am a foster mom and have had times I have had to fit 7 kids into the van. (8 passenger van so 1 child must be up front) Up till now I have either had a newborn as part of that crew that fit in my dreamride which is approved for use with an airbag, or have used my travel vest which is also approved for use with an airbag. I am not real comfortable with the second option especially, and know car beds are said to be not as safe as reg rf infant seats if they aren't needed for medical reasons. Secondly, I have had several medical kiddos that require monitoring. Most of these have been teeny ones -who again fit in a car bed (some needed that feature, some didn't), but one was a 30lb 10mo, so there was no option for me with that. I just limited my car trips and pulled over frequently to check on him.
