I was talking to my friend, Mandy, on the phone last week about what carseat she should get (has the Triumph and hates it!) for her 12 month old to keep him rear-facing as long as possible and she mentioned her friend with a newborn. I'm turning Mandy into a carseat nut because she notice that her friend's carseat base was extremely loose, the harness straps were very loose and twisted, and the chest clip was way low. She was concerned and decided to finally say something. She helped her friend get the base installed tight, fixed the twisted straps, and showed her how tight they needed to be, where the chest clip goes, and recommended she go see a tech. THE NEXT DAY her friend was rear-ended on the side where the baby was. Baby is fine!! She had an MRI and cat-scan, etc to make sure and everything is great. The doctor commented how surprised he was that there was no injury because he normally sees quite a few injuries on infants because the seat moves so much.
YAY for speaking up and saving lives!!!

That is so great. How lucky, thank goodness! I shudder to think what COULD have happened.

Wow that's great!
The friends friend knows she should get a new seat now right? Maybe one that you can adjust a little easier up front?!

Yep, I made sure she knew that...and she did. I let her know to replace the seatbelts that were used as well, but her car is totalled---she'll be getting an altogether new vehicle.

AWESOME!!! I'm so happy her baby wasn't injured at all.
BTW -- how's the mother? Is she ok too?
very disturbing about what the dr said. :(
"The doctor commented how surprised he was that there was no injury because he normally sees quite a few injuries on infants because the seat moves so much."
That's terrible.
Somehow, either parents don't read/understand manuals, or there's no emphasis on safety from elsewhere, the message about secure car seats is just not getting out there. :(

I wondered about that...I wonder if the doctor knows that the carseat is not supposed to move that much or if he thinks that is normal!
Yes, mom is fine too :) .
