It has to be from walmart (http://www.walmart.com/catalog/catalog.gsp?cat=91512), and preferably under $180 before tax.
I bought this (http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=3132491) on CL because dd needed a dresser too and I thought the combo would be handy (paid $100 and it was like new). I hated the dresser/changer almost immediately. We never even set the crib part up because we were waiting on a mattress. That finally arrived yesterday, but I noticed last night that there was a new recall for Simplicity cribs. I realized mine was on the list. It had a walmart item number so I took it in today and they gave me store credit.
so, what would you buy? I'm not tied to the combination concept. I liked our old changing table much better.

What features do you want it to have? drop rail or all stationary parts? What type of wood? What color? Do you want to be able to get it at the store, or do site to store for one that is online only? Do you want it to be able to convert to a toddler bed or twin/full bed?

Maybe this one (http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=5640152&findingMethod=rr)? It does at least have some storage in the bottom. Personally, I never had a changing table. I used a pad on top of a dresser or changed them wherever.
ETA I just realized it comes in lots of colors....http://www.walmart.com/search/search-ng.do?search_constraint=5427&ic=48_0&search_query=chelsea&Find.x=0&Find.y=0&Find=Find

Site to store is fine. That's what I was planning because they have a way bigger selection that way (unless I go with one of the few that listed 97 cent shipping).
I don't need the drop side. In fact, that's why the other one was recalled - see here (http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml09/09260.html), here (http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml08/08401.html) and here (http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml07/07307.html).
I can't decide on the color and I'm not sure if we'll keep it around as a toddler bed. I never thought we'd need a crib again anyway. Ds didn't really use his. We did sidecar it for cosleeping for a few months, but gave it away when he was around 18 months. I didn't think we'd use one again, but dd does better with her own space.

I have the Graco Lauren crib from walmart.com and while it does convert, it is very sturdy. Graco cribs used to be made by Simplicity, but are now made by La Jobi, the same company that makes high end Babi Italia cribs. It assembles the same as BI cribs, too. I was the furniture dept supervisor at BRU for a year and my Graco crib feels as sturdy as the BI cribs I assembled. It was $149.
ETA: This is my exact crib, except now it's less: http://www.walmart.com/Graco-Lauren-Convertible-Crib-Espresso/ip/8466715
I second the Lauren. I carry it in store and like it.

any experience with Baby Mod brand (http://www.walmart.com/browse/Furniture/Cribs/Baby-Mod/_/N-8s08Z1z06sl4Z1yzo2m5Zaq90ZaqceZaqa6/Ne-apsw?ic=15_0&ref=125863.409544+500000.500622+500500.4293415480+ 501437.4292542013&tab_value=37_All&catNavId=414099&waRef=125863.409544+500500.4293415480+501437.42925 42013+500000.500591+500000.500622&catNavId=414099)?
dh liked those. I guess he's not as strict on the budget. :p although, the color I like best is out of stock.

I need to get one too. I have this one...
http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=8087174
and loved it until I read about the recall today.
Of course DD was taking her nap in it when I read it. I paid full price, don't have the receipt but do have my walmart.com printout, so I am really hoping for a refund rather than store credit because I don't see anything I like. I love that crib. I love the extra storage, love how it looks, liked the changing table until DD was able to roll, then we moved to the floor. Grrrr, I am just so mad it had to be bad.
Sorry, didn't mean to hijack, but this has been stressing me out for the last several hours.

I almost got the Graco Lauren, but went with a Delta Luv crib (with a drop side - actually my first drop side ever).

The crib I bought was Baby Mod. It's made by Million Dollar Baby (which is also the Da Vinci cribs you see different places). They even use the same stock photo in most cases. Mine is great quality. I had my eye on a certain Da Vinci crib, and got the exact same crib (literally) for less :-)

the industry stopped selling drop sides a few months ago. Mine is a drop side, but... the issue is with the manufacturers using cheap equipment, not the style itself.
BTW, I believe Baby Mod is made by Delta. They have almost as many recalls as Simplicity.
I have a Graco Lauren that I bought from Target in Sept (it's also sold at Walmart). It's very popular - I had to check 4 stores to find it. I realized after I bought it that it's because Consumer Reports rated it a best buy. I would buy it again.
It is a great crib for the money. Lajobi is a pretty reputable company. They make the Babi Italia lines at Babies R Us.
Simplicity has been out of business for a few months.

We also have this one and it pretty good too, not as nice as the one I posted above but because it is so low it makes an awesome toddler bed!

What about this one?

Non-drop side, eco-friendly, made by La Jobi (like the other graco cribs).
Both the Graco Lauren and Sarah were best buys from baby bargains in their most recent edition, which came out in April. The Dakota (featured above), had not been launched yet, but they've updated their blog to say nice things about it.
Just a little more than your target price.
I have the Lauren and I am happy with it. The drop sides scare me a little bit because of all the recalls, but the Dakota was not supposed to be available in August and I am due in two weeks.

:yeahthat:The Baby Mod is very nice and they have wonderful customer service. I bought one for this baby and put it together myself at 35 weeks pg - took awhile, but wasn't hard. It is super sturdy. I intend to use it as a toddler bed as well but I'm not sure if I'll get the full size conversion kit. I Like how low the mattress goes for the toddler bed and the lil rail actually covers half the opening, which I like.

Crunchy, which crib did you end up getting? Are you happy with it?
I find myself in need of a crib now (we returned our borrowed-from-my-cousin-for-8-years crib a month before I got pregnant ). This is definitely our last baby, so we won't be using it for multiple children and would like to keep the price under $250 or so.
I have to say, I'm so disappointed that the (apparently) old-style drop-sides with the springs are no longer made. Our other crib had that and I will really miss it. Unfortunately, the crib went to my cousin's friend pretty much as soon as we returned it, so there's no way we can have it back. :(

We may need one as well. I'd be happy to go used of CL or something (as I know how to check recalls!)
We've got the hand-me-down I used with Jo, but it is not in the happiest of states. If we get a new crib, I will donate ours to the local woman's shelter.
I HAVE to have a drop-side, I'm just over 5 feet tall and can't reach kiddos at the bottom. I really like having the mattress height adjustable. I don't care for a convertible of any kind or storage. Just a plain old crib.
The crib we have is the kind with the springs in it mentioned PP. I love it. We had a second crib that you had to lift up on the bar and attempt to squeeze two plastic things into a hole just oddly positioned with your arms outstretched to get the drop-side down. We got rid of that crib. It was horrible. And the drawers at the bottom never stayed in, so while trying to get the side down with the funky hand maneuver, you also had to stand on one foot holding in a drawer, haha!
Any suggestions?

Ikea has some nice cribs. We have this one from Zoe, and it held up well, we will be using it for this little one too. The toddler bed conversion was great as well.

You know, I normally love IKEA stuff (we adore DS's Kura bed) but I haven't been thrilled with any of the cribs they offer - none are in the natural color I need (so we can pretend that the completely mis-matched furniture kind of goes together ), and we don't use toddler beds, so that's not particularly a plus for me.
We ended up ordering this one (http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3417452) from Babies R Us. The sides are low enough that I don't think I'll have trouble getting baby in and out. My parents offered to buy our crib, and it was a fairly nice price anyway - especially with the coupon I got for trading in our ghastly old Evenflo Portabout. We should get it within a week, and then we're sending DD to my folks' house for a few days so we can get some things done around the house, including switching the kids' rooms around and getting the crib set up. I can't wait!
