We have a 1967 Citroen DS that we hope to use in the summer to drive down from London to Cornwall. The car does not have rear seat belts fitted.
We now have a baby, so I am hoping that someone will have some advice about how to install a seat belt so that we can use our Maxi Cosi baby seat in the car. We do have a Maxi Cosi Isofix base and I was thinking that it might be easier to install Isofix adapters than seat belts? (The back seat of the car is like a sofa and is not fixed, making the installation of seatbelts a little tricky)
Many thanks, Lorien

Does the front seat have seatbelts? I think in that old of a car, I'd put baby rearfacing in the front seat (since there is no airbag), and move one adult to the back. Having seatbelts installed would still be a good idea, but I'm not sure if thay are possible if the rear seat is not in a fixed position.

I think in that old of a car, I'd put baby rearfacing in the front seat (since there is no airbag), and move one adult to the back.

It's important to keep in mind, though, that an unbelted passenger is a serious danger to everyone in the vehicle, even properly restrained passengers, as illustrated in this public service announcement: YouTube - DOE: No Seatbelt No Excuse

The best option would be to get seatbelts retrofitted for the back seat, even if it means you need to replace the back seat. Perhaps someone more familiar with restoring classic cars would have a better idea about whether that's possible. (I'm not terribly familiar with UK cars, but I serioiusly doubt that you can get ISOFIX retrofitted.) If there are three seatbelts in the front seat, it might be better to put baby RF in the front seat.

Unfortunately, sometimes a vehicle just can't be made safe for transporting a child. :o

I've just resolved the same problem for a 1972 Citroen D Super, see email from Darrin at Citroen Classics;

Hi Mark,

To supply two inertia reel front belts plus two 3 point static rear belts in the period style with chrome buckles and pillar loops comes to £485.87 inclusive of carriage to you and VAT.
The belts come with all new fixings.
One thing to note is that you will need to mount the front belts on the side or top of the sill, rather than through the floor at the bottom of the sill where you existing front belts may be currently mounted, unless a bracket is made up. The sill mountings may already be there and can usually be found where there is a hole partially punched in the grey sill covering vinyl.

The rear belts should have enough length to accommodate a front facing child seat, but if you need to put a rear facing child seat in there, I'll probably have to get extra long belts.

Kind Regards,
Darrin
