View Full Version : Radian Car Seat in Switzerland

Hello

Hoping for some input or tips.

I don't have a car, but occassionally rent/hitch a ride and fly for my 18-month old. He's currently just over 14kg and about 85cm.

Seeing as he's a pretty big kid, I'm trying to find a seat which will fit into most cars as well as airplanes without having to buy a new seat every couple of years

Currently, I'm leaning toward the Radian 80; I love the fact that it seems very sturdy and safe and that it's foldable and have visions of being able to somehow strap it onto the stroller (am I hallucinating?)
But I've read a few concerns that the crotch strap is not always long enough. Anyone have any views? Is there some kind of extension?

I've also read that the seat is not that easy to install; how much of an issue is this? And how does it work when trying to install the seat in an airplane seat?

I'd be grateful for your impressions on the Radian and any alternatives you'd suggest.

Also, does anyone happen to know a retailer in Switzerland or anywhere in Europe that sells the Radian seats?

I have a Radian65 here in France.

The install is not a big deal but it's ffing. I never used it rfing since I got it too late. No problems with the crotch strap but dd is skinny, so maybe I'm not the best one to comment.

Sunshine Kids wont sell the Radian in Europe because higher harnessed seats are not tested here. They were allowed to sell it as seat up to 18 kilos but that defeats their main selling point-higher harnessing. They told me that they got European approval but I can't verify that (not mentioned in the manual).

Btw, the differences between the 65 and 80 weren't enough to sell me the latter. The shoulder slots are the same and my kids typically outgrow seats by height, not weight. The 80 apparently is better for chunky kids.

Hi there

Swiss Mama, did you ever resolve this issue? I am based in Zürich and desperately trying to find a convertible that is FAA approved. Obviously there is only one convertible available here but you have to order it (Römer first class plus but no good for planes). What did you end up doing?

Oh cool! I'm in Zurich too!
No, I'm still trying to figure out a good solution. So far, my favorite second pick that's available here is the Recaro Young Sport. It looks like it would be pretty reasonable to fix to a rolling suitcase for easy transportation.
I still like the Radian better even though I've never actually been able to put my DS in one. I went to Bebehaus Wehrli the other day and asked them about it. They took note of the seat and said they would investigate and seek out the makers if they exhibit at the car seat trade show in Germany in a few months.
PM me if you'd like to compare notes!
