Seatbelt or LATCH?
ALR, ELR, or switchable?
Lap-only or lap-shoulder?
Locking at the latchplate or the retrator?
Lightweight locking latchplate or not lightweight (I guess that would be heavyweight)?
If you were designing a car's seatbelt system, which features would it have?

Seatbelt or LATCH? Either, as long as it's a good install.
Switchable retractor, it's the best of both worlds.
Lap-shoulder.
Lock at the latchplate.
Lightweight locking latchplate.
My favorite overall combination is lap-shoulder belt with a lightweight locking latchplate (one that don't slip). Second choice for CRS install is lap-only belt with a tail.
Last choice would be ELR lap-only belt, because I don't have a belt shortening clip, so I couldn't install there at all.

Assuming they don't slip, I think lap-shoulder belts with lighweight locking latchplates offer the easiest installs.

personally, I love lapbelts or lap/shoulder belts with a locking latchplate best.

Seatbelt or LATCH?
Both are good : ) but I *hate* the non-britax style LATCH connectors.
ALR, ELR, or switchable?
For forward facing seats, I like ALR and switchable.
Lap-only or lap-shoulder?
Lap is a breeze.
Locking at the latchplate or the retrator?
Either for forward facing, locking latchplate for rear facing.
Lightweight locking latchplate or not lightweight (I guess that would be heavyweight)?
Both are good :)

Seatbelt or LATCH?
- either, depends on the seat and vehicle
ALR, ELR, or switchable?
- switchable
Lap-only or lap-shoulder?
- love lap only for CRS, so simple, BUT I wouldn't design it that way because it's so useless for anything else.

I personally hate lightweight locking latch plates. I like the regular lap only belt locking latchplates fine, but the light weight drive me batty. For one, I don't trust them and hate that we always have to qualify them and say "it works fine, providing it actually locks". I also am really annoyed by the resistance as you pull the belt through them, and always feel like they are "jamming up" even when I don't want them to. Ick. Honestly I would be thrilled to never see one again. I prefer a locking clip!
I like the retractable lap/shoulder belts and lap-only belt with a tail.
I have my Regent LBP right now and I hate that it has a lightweight locking latchplate instead of the retactor.
ALR, ELR, or switchable?
What's this?

There are three types of retractors. ALR is automatic locking retractor, that's when after you pull it out and let it go back, you can't pull it out anymore. It's locked. ELR is emergency locking retractor, it only locks in a crash or sudden maneuver. Switchable is what most newer cars have, where it's ELR most of the time for the adults, but if you pull the belt all the way out, it switches to ALR for a carseat install.

Mine really depends on the car seat. Marathon always LATCh. Frontier mostly LBP, unless the belt isn't long enough. Infant seats LATCh unless in the middle where you can't and then switchable retractor unless there is a lean. Etc.
Overall,
Seatbelt
switchable
lap
Locking at the retrator
Lightweight locking latchplate
