I noticed yesterday my girlfriend has her RF MA top tethered to the anchor on the same seat. The anchor point for the seat when a carseat is installed FFing.

Is this ok or should I let her know she should be using her d-ring and attaching it to the passenger seat leg in front.

I am thinking the d-ring is what she should be doing but I don't want to correct her if I am mistaken.

Is there any major safety concerns with how she has it setup?

Thanks!

Britax has specifically banned RF tethering to the same seat the CRS is installed on. The RF tether should be attached to either the D ring or a dedicated tether anchor to a point towards the front of the vehicle in a relatively straight line.

Thanks for the info. I will let her know straight away to correct it.

For my own knowledge are you allowed that set up with any other seat? Or is that an overall no-no?

No, there is no seat that allows that. Britax used to allow tethering to the same seat but ixnayed that several years ago.

This might actually be ok depending on how she's doing it.

Does the tether go under the vehicle seat, then up to the FF tether point? If so, like Maedze said, that's not allowed.

If the tether just goes over the seat and connects to the anchor, that's fine. It's known as Australian tethering, and as far as I know, Britax does still allow that.

So, the tether strap is over the top of the RFg seat, using the TT anchor for that same seat? That's Australian tethering and Britax IS ok with that AFAIK. Its a PITA to use, though, which is why most people don't use it.

If she can't find an appropriate place to RF tether Swedish style, personally, *I* wouldn't bother to RF tether. Britax no longer allows RFg tethering to the seat that the restraint is installed on. In some vehicles and with some installations, that leaves no place to RF tether. For example, if you RF tether in a 2005 Ody 2nd row driver's side outboard, there is NO place to RF tether if you don't use the seat track for that 2nd row seat. (there ARE places if you use the 2nd row passenger side captains chair, though).
