Question about latch

When did car manufacturers start putting latch in vehicles? Did any have it before 2001? If so, who? I'm looking for a new(er) car and would like to have latch.

I know for a fact 2000 Ford Windstar and Focus had them. I know there were a few others, but don't want to guess the models and be wrong, but as far as make, I am thinking some VWs did. I looked at a 2000 Windstar or 2 and had 2 2000 Focuses (foci?) so I know I can say they did.

It was required in all cars after September 1, 2002. Before that you're hit or miss, and it'd take reading through every car in the LATCH manual to know which do and which don't. VW and Audi offer (or at least did for a while) a retrofit program for LATCH on their post MY 99s, maybe MY 2000. But otherwise some did, most didn't.
