I have a MA RF in my new Mazda Cx-9. I had it installed by a car seat tech. We got the RF tether hooked onto a spot(the only one we could find) behind the passenger front seat. It appears that the tether is causing the seat to tilt a bit to the that side, it would do the same thing I imagine if the tether was attached behind the driver sseat, just tilting to the other side. Like its pulling it a bit...
Its not alot by any means, but it is alittle tilted.. Is this bad??
I am really getting tired of these car seats.. I keep trying to get it right and its always something.. Clearly I would do anything to make it as safe as possible, but why does it have to be so complicated??
I had it perfect in my old car, and now that we got a new car there seems to be an issue with everything..
Is it better to have it not tethered so it won't have that little tilt? It is in super tight....

Not a tech.
But I don't think the tether should be so tight that it would be affecting the angle of install.
I think it's actually better that the tether have a *little* bit of slack.
But I'm not a tether expert. :p

You had a solid install before the tether was attached? If so, can you make sure that there isn't excessive tension on the tether strap? A little bit of tilting is ok as long as the base of the seat is fully on the seat, so no gaps on the side that is tilting up.

I will check.. I don't believe any sides of the base care coming up at all... I will also try to loosen the tether a little, its tight but I didn't notice it being so tight that its straining the strap?
IF.... i check these things and for some reason it doesn't change it, is it better to not use the tether or have it tilted just a bit? My 2nd row is made of 2 seats, like a 60/40 split seat. I'm wondering if its sitting somewhat on the 40 side a bit causing it to tilt alittle, like its a different seat, so maybe one side is a bit off from the other? we were very careful to make sure it was all on the 60 side in the center if that makes sense..???
Seriously, I am getting so frustrated. I feel constantly stressed that the seat isn't right.... :(
I know thats what you guys are there for, but I hate that I have to keep going to get help to get it installed just right... I feel like I never hear of other people I know having issues... :(

My 3rd row has a 60-40 split. The middle seat is usually tilted. And the longer it sits there, the more it "settles"... and seems to appear to tilt more toward toward where the seat splits. As long as there's no more than an inch of movement at the belt path, it's fine.
It drives me crazy too, to look in my rear view mirror and see a crooked seat. lol. I'm such a perfectionist. But there's not much I can do about it... so I've had to learn to accept it. I've taken it out, reinstalled it... it doesn't fix the tilt.
I'd leave it tethered. As long as it's installed properly and the tether isn't too tight, it's fine.

The tether should be taut, not tight--so should change the angle of the install at all. I'd leave it on, just make sure there's no slack in it but it's not tight, if that makes sense ;)

Yeah, I'd leave it tethered too, even if you have some tilting. Can you post pics?

When I'm helping a parent of a new Britax I always mention the tilt. Because Piper's seat was tilted for YEARS rear facing. Maybe 15 degrees tops. And most don't do that much. But I saw it all the time and it bugged me. So I'll tell you the same thing I tell them. A slight tilt is fine. It's not unsafe, and for an older child I'd rather the tether than an untilted seat. However, it'll bug YOU to no end. :-) But it's just cosmetic since it's only a few degrees.
One question. You say the tech installed it. Did they teach you how to install it? If not, then bad tech. You need to be able to take it out and put it back again, and the tech is supposed to make sure you know how.

yes, she showed me how.. it was just different for me cuz this new car had the shoulder belt and the other car had the lap belt. so we were having a hard time getting it tight. the feeding the belt thru to tighten/lock it is a pain in the butt to me!! :( I much prefer the lap belt...
