I've never been much for baby wearing with my first 3 kids but I've taken a liken to it with kiddo #4.:D

My question is what carrier is the best for the summer. Right now I have an infantano sling which is already to hot to use. I also have a snugli I bought on clearance at Target. I like the snugli a lot but it is made of a very thick material. It just seems like it will be way too hot to use once the temps go up around here.

Please remember I'm new to this baby wearing thing. So if you could please add links to pics of any suggestions, otherwise I probably won't know what you're talking about.:p

Thanks.

I've never found any baby-wearing product that doesn't make me at least a little bit hot. Having another warm body that close to you consistently, and especially in the same position, does increase sweating.

But my favorite so far has been my Moby Wrap. Yes, it's a wrap. And yes, it pretty much covers your entire upper body. But it's very lightweight and breathable. And mine is a light color (nude), so it doesn't absorb the heat as much as a darker color would. The only place I get a little sweaty is directly where the baby is. And I really don't notice it until I actually take take him out of it.

My Solarveil ring sling does not add any heat at all. Really. In summer, in Southern California, my Solarveil sling is the ONLY way I can babywear without overheating.

Of course, the baby's body being next to yours makes you hot in and of itself, but I mean the fabric itself does nothing to add heat.

If Solarveil's not in your budget, there are other mesh slings out there, too.

I just got a Wombfruit Wrap (http://www.ccbabywraps.blogspot.com/) last week and I love it. It's very lightweight and since dd2 has decided to start teething and only wants *me* to hold her, I'm eternally grateful that this is working so well, since I have to get things done at least occasionally :p. I'm not getting hot in it so far and I've been wearing her in it a LOT.

By contrast, I also have a Sleepy Wrap (http://www.sleepywrap.com/), which is very similar to a Moby Wrap. It's a stretchy cotton knit and while it's not heavyweight, it's a bit more bulky/hot than the Wombfruit wrap.

I used the pouch style slings with my May baby last summer (Hotslings would be a brand name you could google). I made my own out of a lightweight seersucker fabric, not a big seamstress but it was only 3 seams so I could handle it!!
Yes, a little sweaty, but not a lot of fabric at all, so not as hot as the Snugli or Infantino probably is.

I have a few Mei Ties that are fairly cool. I'm also looking at getting a didymose wrap, as some of those are petty light weight.
http://www.birdiesroom.com/Default.aspx This is an awesome website (its all in CAD$$ though) for didys
Also Gypsy Mama wraps are really airy....also plan on ordering one of these (I'm slightly addicted....lol)

Wow, everyone seems to really like wraps. I've never used any type of wrap before.

I have a few questions:

Are they easy to use?

Do they require lots of practice to be able to get it right?

Can you get a baby in and out of it in a parking lot in just a few minutes?

Yes, the moby is pretty easy to use. I figured it out by watching youtube videos and it was suprisingly easy to use. I had it down after the first couple times I used it.

If I am going to the store, or the mall, or somewhere where I will be baby wearing, I put it on ahead of time at home, then just wear it in the car. That way when I am wrapping myself, it doesn't get all over the ground or whatever. So yeah, once I get her out of the car it just takes a couple minutes to stick her in and we're off!

I recently posted in the community member forum on this topic. I will send you a link to the thread via PM. One member in particular shared lots of pictures of her baby-wearing experience.

I'll buck the trend - I cannot stand to wear my Moby in the summer - it's godawful hot.

Give me a nice cotton adjustable ring sling and I'm happy.
