View Full Version : The new Baby Trend sit and stand...
Have you guys seen this yet??
http://www.babytrend.com/sit_n_stand_double/
I  it!! Best of all my parents are getting it for our baby gift  Jacob thinks the coolest part is 1) he can sit in front cause the baby's seat can now go in back and 2) when it is in sit n stand mode he has a cup holder. Kids and their cup holders

If I would ever need something like this I would NOT choose the Sit and Stand. I think it is a HUGE PITB and not very well made after seeing a good friend's. I know other strollers cost more, but it sounds like they are worth it! :twocents:

Yeah, sorry to burst your bubble. :o I have to agree with Crystal. These are not made well. The double, afaik, has been around for awhile. It's been on display at our local shopko for awhile at least.
With your DS being 40lbs there is NO way you're going to steer the Baby Trend with him on it. Whether he's sitting in the front or standing on the platform.
I even had an expensive Joovy Caboose (the regular one) and I could barely steer it with my baby and 3 year old. Turning a corner with it required both hands and a massive amount of strength. I ended up getting the Caboose Ultralight and it's much easier to steer.
I had DD jump on the Baby Trend at BRU when we were looking and the whole thing creaked and the wheels looked like they were going to bust off.
ETA: It says right on the web page that the standing platform is intended for children 2.5 yrs - 40lbs. The seats are also only rated to 40lbs. I'm sure it won't bust in half if he's over, but it's going to be a bear to steer and will likely cause excess wear and tear.
Sorry to sound like such a downer, I just don't want you to be disappointed.

I think the one you are thinking about in the sit and stand plus, which is the same frame as the LX, this one is bigger.
Don't worry you are not bursting my bubble or hurting my feelings. I know it is not the greatest or most well made, but it is going to work for us. Plus it is in our budget.

I am wondering how it will work for you since your eldest is already 40lbs, which is the max weight.

Yes he is 40lbs, we have tested out the regular S&S and it works just fine. Plus if you think about the max weight is 40lbs for each seat so that is 80lbs all together. Also isn't the wieght on a stroller sorta like the hieght on a carseat, just a guidline??

yes it is a guideline. because it also depends on whether your stroller basket is empty or fully loaded. I have push my sleeping 43lb DS1 on a 40lb limit cosco stroller because thats much easier than carrying him.
the S&S is easier to push than the duoglider. and its definately easier to push if Jacob is sitting at the back when going up a ramp.

I don't think so. The height difference is all how a body carries that x inches of height a weight is a weight is a weight. A 40 pound dummy weighs 4 pounds whether they are 2yo or 5yo 3 feet tall or 4 feet tall. Will a stroller collapse into rubble at 41 pounds, no, but it is more comparable to expiration dates it won't break at 41 but will it as 51, 61, 91, 101?? After one trip with a 50 pounder? Probably not but will it after the 10th, 15th, 47th, 247th?
That being said I have carried well over the 40 pound limit in my simple graco stroller with one 35 (or 45) pounder sitting in the seat and a 35 pounder on the reclined seat back when times get desperate. But being over the weight definately effects performance and with a double I think the issues would be exasserbated. I know my side by side double jogger is a PITA if it goes over stated weights and especially if it is not balanced. And the tandems are already harder to steer than side by sides.
Also J is not going to be in it 100% of the time. It is mainly just for when he is tired at the Zoo or when I am out just me and the 2 kids, b/c frankly we all know how well a 4 year old listens *sarcasm* The reson for the 2 seat option is all Dh, he insits that J have the option of a full seat and this new verison is longer there for gives him extra room while using the jump seat with an infant seat in front.

This is exactly why I bought a regular Sit N Stand (i.e. not a double with two full seats) when DD was born. DS was 4.5 and we still usually took a stroller with us to the zoo, etc. so that we didn't have to carry him when he got tired. I think we used the Sit N Stand up until two summers ago, when DS was 6 - we may have even used it once or twice last summer, I can't remember. I never had any problems with it. (Granted, DS didn't hit 40 lbs until he turned 6, but still.)
I'm glad I didn't sell the stroller when I considered it last fall. :p It will definitely come in handy when #3 arrives. And I do expect that DS will want to ride in the back once in a while, and that's fine with me.

The sit n stand double worked out well for us. My DD was about at the point of not really needing the full back seat option, but I wanted the canopy on the back, which isn't on the regular sit n stand.
Even if you don't use the back seat, you can recline it and use it to hold your shopping bags, etc. On mine, I could remove the back seat in a matter of seconds and put it in the basket if DD decided she just wanted to use the jumpseat.
The only complaint I have for mine is that it doesn't stand alone when folded, but that may have changed on the newer models.

The problem I had was little people in the stroller. The straps never tightened enough, but maybe they fixed that? Why get this and not the regular one?
We went and tried it out a BRU yesterday and we LOVE this new one. It has a footrest for the rider in back. Jacob had about 3 in of growing room in the back seat too. Unlike the S&S plus the back seat is elevated and farther away for the front seat so the back rider has tons more room. It also has the 2 child trays which flip down to acc. infant seats in both seating postions. it also seems a LOT sturdier than the other models.

I agree, it's not too bad (for a giant tandem stroller, lol, what's ever really GOOD about these things? Maybe if they were 15 pounds on inline skate wheels...lol). I like the flexibility that you can put the infant seat on the front or the back, and it's cool how the seat fabric pops on and off the back. It's more substantial than the regular sit n stand, for sure! And I totally get you about the two cupholders/trays being awesome :)
Yeah, the weight limits are more of a guideline. They probably stuck some sandbags on it on a treadmill and saw how many pounds made the axle bend or the wheels wear unevenly... if it's not pushing that load constantly, it shouldn't be a problem, and kids only gain a couple pounds a year at that age in general, so it's no like he'll be 60lbs next week.
I wish BRU would carry the joovy caboose ultralight...i never hear anything but good reviews of that one :D

I just sold mine last week, but we loved it while we had it! I might regret it down the road, but I just got my P&T Sport and I'm in love with it!
To the PP, I started out with the Sit N Stand Plus and usually put my then 3.5 year old in the front seat and the carseat in the back. It didn't snap in, but it fit snugly. I will say, though, that thing pushed like a tank. It was awful to steer. I got rid of it within a couple of months and replaced it with an Ultralight Caboose. It was much better suited to our needs and since DS is now over 40lbs it steered much better. I'd encourage you to try the new BT OUTSIDE before you buy it. They all steer really well on the smooth floors at BRU, but it's a different story on bumpy sidewalks.
I will say that I saw the new BT in person at Target and it *does* look nicer and sturdier than the old one. We got the P&T because DS is nearly 5 now and we don't always need him to ride.

I had all 3 of my (big) kids on a Sit and Stand LX, and a Joovy Caboose (the cheapest one) and I found the Sit n Stand way easier to push and manouver than the Joovy. I also did not find it that hard to push at all period, On it I had a 44 pound almost 6 year old and a 36 pound almost 4 year old on the back platform one sitting one standing and another 36 pound almost 4 year old in the front. I was actually at TRU testing it out for when our new baby comes (due in Dec) but found it pretty funny how excited my 3 big kids were to climb on, considering you couldn't wrestle the twins into a stroller a year ago! We walked all around the store in both strollers for quite a while.
Yeah it didn't steer like the $1000 stroller I had for all 3 when the twins were babies, but it wasn't horrible, it was nice looking, had a big basket, and was cheap and smaller than the one we used to use. Also it is nice for the toddler/preschoolers to be able to hop on and off for site seeing, lifting can get really tiresome after the millionth time!
So 115 pounds of kids on the stroller and it did a good job, not bad in my opinion.

ps.s you can also buy platforms to attach to most strollers for the older kid to stand on, one even flips out of the way, which is another way to go.
