View Full Version : If your primary seats vanished, what would your kids be riding in?....

you can only use seats you already own. Also what are their primary seats.
Elizabeth is in a radian and she would use a marathon, most likely forward facing since I don't trust anyone but me to get her in with the straps tight enough rear-facing.
Benjamin is in a radian and he would be in a parkway.
Daniel is in a backless Monterrey and he would be in a backless turbo, right fit, or star riser.
Jacob is sometimes in a prospect and I do not have another seat he fits in.
DS would either be in a Radian (that will no longer match my car) or in a TWE that is being saved for any future children. I'm not using it FFing and DS is FFing now.
DD uses a Regent and if it disappeared I would have to use the lg RSTV that I am trying to sell :(
I would have to find another Regent.

Liv's main seat is a FN. If it disappeared, I'd just put her in the GN.
Elias is in a BV and I'd just use the EFTA for him.

My daughters ride in Radians all across day-to-day.
If those seats suddenly vanished-- say, stolen from our car-- and we still had the same car, I'd put my 1 year old in the Uptown currently in my mom's car for her, my 3 year old in the Radian currently in my mom's car for her, and the 5 year old in the middle in the RSTV-- the same setup we use in my mom's Sentra.
If the whole CAR was gone and we suddenly had a rental minivan or something where I didn't have to worry about 3 across, my older 2 could go in their SafeGuard Child Seats (currently in storage awaiting our next car, taken out for occasional use in an aunt's car or something) and the baby in the Uptown or, I suppose, in one of the Comos sitting in my living room waiting to be sold... Or even in the Radian installed for my 3 year old in my mom's car right now.
I have a lot of seats. If for some reason the SGCSs didn't work in the van (almost inconcievable-- maybe if it wasn't a van but some other vehicle and they were too tall? Still not likely), I could also put one of the older 2 in a Radian, one in the Apex, and baby in the Uptown or Como. (Thinking about it, not only do I have a lot of seats-- I have an awful lot of HWH seats.)

We only have 1 spare seat for 4 kids and it's a Parkway. Ave could go right from the Regent to the PW. Jane could go right from the Radian to the PW. If something happened to Ez's BV, he would borrow the Regent or Radian and Ave or Jane could go in the PW. If something happened to Zander's seat, he would borrow the BV, Ez would use Jane's Radian, and Jane would use the PW (or Jane would use the Regent and Ave would use the PW). I got sick of having so many spare seats sitting around, so I got rid of all of them and came up with this plan. If more than 1 kids' seat vanished, I'd have to buy more seats, lol.
I really don't have primary seats. I use what I feel like using that day. For the past week, I had car seats in 3 cars for the 2 kids that aren't mine.

If both of our primary seats (a Wizard and a Nautilus) disappeared at the same time, then the kids would ride in a Parkway and a Turbobooster- we have nothing else to fit them.
If only one disappeared, then the 4.5yo would go in the remaining harness and the 7.5yo would use the Parkway or TB.
I am grateful that my 2nd DD made it to 4.5 in the 40lbs seats, but it puts me in a difficult position as far as justifying harnessed seats in secondary vehicles.

Dd's primary is a Monterey, so she would ride in the Parkway.
Ds's primary is the Frontier, so he would ride in the Radian XT.

Piper's in a Nautilus. She'd either go into her Parkway or the Radian. Not sure, honestly. Probably Parkway.

Jordan's primary is now the Frontier. If it vanished, he'd ride in a Marathon.

Right now, primary seats in my van are Vivo for Ryan and Dreamway for William.
If something happened to them, my spares are the Nauti in booster mode (harness this><close to outgrown) and an Evenflo Big Kid backless.
My daughter's primary seat is a Frontier, and she would ride FF in a True Fit.
My son's primary seat is a Boulevard (RF), and he would ride RF in a Marathon.

If my son's car seat vanished, I'd leave him at home with his dad while I went out to the store and bought a seat for him. He's too young for "nothing" and I DON"T LIKE THE SCENERA that is the only other seat we even own right now.

She's mostly riding in a Monterey now. If it poofed, she'd be in a Nautilus (unless it gets sold) or the Compass B510.

Trin's is a FPSVD, she'd go FF into the NAutilus.

I got rid of all my spare seats. If my seats vanished today, I'd put S in the hb Turbo that's in dh's truck and B in the KF even though she's borderline too tall. T would go in a Cargo in booster mode and A would be w/o a seat.
At one point I had an extra True Fit, Marathon, Regent, and Turbo, so we would've been set;)

I would have to buy several seats.
Primary seats are:
boulevard
decathlon
regent
parkway
only extra seats I have now are:
a keyfit (just outgrown)
a nautilus for the 3.5 year old
and a backless turbo (she doesn't fit the back) for the 6 year old, and she barely fits that.
Although, I think when I can, we will be getting a my ride and a cowmoo boulevard (my bv and dc are 33 pound limits).

Primaries are Radian65 (my car) and BabyTrend LatchLoc (DH's car). She also rides in a ComfortSport fairly often (my brother's car), which also acts as a backup seat for DH's and my cars.
If the first two both vanished, we'd use the ComfortSport. If all three vanished, she'd be staying home until I could run out and buy something.
Right now my kids are primary in my van, Regent and RF Radian.
So ds would go RF in the pink Como, and dd in her Radian from dh's car.
If those vanished, then ds would have to go in the Scenara (not sure if he fits by height) and dd would be in a Wiz, but she's really very close to outgrowing it any day now. Installed in the van and not dh's car, she might be too tall.
Right now she's in the Radian in his car, and he's in teh Wiz FF.

If Josef's Regent vanished, one he would be a happy camper and two he would ride in his SK Monterey.
Since we only ever have two seats for him I choose to buy "better" secondary seats for those "just in case" moments.

They are both currently in Sceneras but DS has a TF on the way (whenever it comes out...) and DN has a MR on the way. If I had to give any of those up... I'd probably go with two Radians. I really like that seat, it just won't keep them RF'ing quite as long as the other seats.
Mommyto2

They both ride in Radian XTs. If they vanished dd would move into her Radian 80 and ds would use the marathon.

We only have 2 "backup" seats and 4 children.
We would not be riding in seats if our primary seats vanished.
However, purchases would be made to accommodate....
DD1 would go into our already-owned Monarch. DD2 would go into a newly purchased Frontier. DD3 would go into some Britax Convertible RF (haven't decided which. I like the BLVD, but I like the price tag of the RA50, and my kids do NOT need the weight limit, LOL!). DD4 would go into our Wizard that expires in March (soon to be replaced of course). A MCP would be purchased for the new baby as well (that is our current plan).

L's primary seats are a Blvd in my car (used most often) and a Young Sport in H's car. If only the Blvd vanished I'd move the Young Sport to my car and put the FPSVD in H's car.
If the seats in both cars disappeared, the FPSVD would go in my car and the Tattletale would go in H's until I could get a replacement for it.

Leah's in a Start w/shield or Radian...if they both disappeared she'd have a Scenera (oh, or a Go...maybe she's too tall for the Scenera?) and a Frontier.
Bitsy's in a Clek in each car (in the middle of the van or outboard in the Escape), she could have a Parkway or Start or Dakota or Strolee High Ride.
Karsten's coming home from Grandma's tomorrow, I have no idea what seat to put him in! Maybe I'll put his Start back in his usual spot and he'll hop right into it? I hope so! I don't want my little guy to be without head protection in my curtain-less van, and i don't think he quite passes the 5 step test in the middle captain's chair, but he's too tall for a backless booster there....

This scares me right now because I currently have NO backup seat for DS!!! All we have is a Nautilus. If something happened to it, I'd be on my way to the store!

Laci usually rides in an RN80. If that were gone she would ride in her Blvd.
If both were gone then DH would stay home while I went to the store to get one.

If my kids seats vanished I would have to put two of them that don't belong in booster in a booster. I have my 2 BV's that are my every day seats for my two youngest and my oldest rides in a nauti. I have 2 FPSVBs and a Parkway as back ups for my oldest. I keep one in my car all the time for friends and what not. One stays in hubbys van in case he had to pick her up from school for some reason, and the PW stays in my MIL Jeep so that she can pick up my oldest at any point and time.
So I guess if I had to use what I have on hand that would be 3 boosters.
I would most likely put the 2 boys in the FPSVB since I think they fit great in them. and my oldest would use the PW.

If our van was cleaned out, my kids would be riding in nothing as long as it took to get to USA Baby. We need a radian to get them all to fit. We have one spare turbo and avenue. I could put 2 year old in the keyfit for a short amount of time. (Until I have a baby.) We'd be going no where by vehicle for the weeks it took to get proper replacements. Or, I suppose I could just buy a bunch for turboboosters for the 3 big kids, then sell later. Basically, it wouldn't be good, but at least we generally live a life where we can stay home with some planning.

Primary seats are a Nautilus for DS and a Coccoro for DD.
If the seats vanished, DS would be in a SafeGuard, and DD in a BV.
If both cars vanished, DS would be in a Go, and DD would be held on my lap. (KIDDING!) If both cars vanished, we wouldn't be able to go anywhere anyway :)

If our primary seats vanished, My girls would ride in the RA, and GNs that live in our pickup. If those were gone too, I have 2 RSTVs that the middle girls could wear and I would have to either borrow back my SR from the neighbor who is borrowing it or borrow my SIL's infant seat, both of which are 22lb seats, so it would only be to go get her a different seat.

06-02-2009, 11:28 AM
Gwen would ride in the Nautilus or Vivo.
Nora would ride in the Scenera.
If both cars were gone then all I would have is the Vivo so I guess we'd be biking.

My kids would then ride in their Regents while I hunted down whoever took my seats!!:p

H rides in an Indy Plus mostly, and we have a Starriser Comfy as a spare (we sold the Parkway recently). She'd have to ride in that full-time until we could get something new (probably a Monterey, I'm guessing, or we'd break down and get a Frontier just for booster mode).

This is so me... the only back up we have is a Scerena and I HATE it. I would cry too if my Cowmoos were taken. I love my MA's and would have to buy two more. I have a SS1 in my vehicle now with my DD's Cowmoo. I also have two Ma's in DH's car. So if both were taken then I am screwed. I would leave them with DH and go carseat shopping:whistle:...

aaaw, I was hoping this thread was one of those "which seats would you buy for your LO's if you had to replace their primary seats". I was all ready to say "Pink or Red Frontiers" :p
But since it's a "Use what you have" thread....I'd have to get my FPSV's out of the neighbor's car. L could also use her old PW. Actually since D loves the side wings of her PW sooo much, I'd probably have D ride in L's old PW (after I washed the cover so D doesn't complain "I don't want to get sissy's head germs!"). ANd then I'd have to check ebay for a sapphire PW cover - D 's her sapphire PW.

If our primary seats, a Decathlon, a SS1 and a Vivo, disappeared, the kids could ride in:
Rachael - Parkway or Nautilus in booster mode
Emily - Radian, FPSVD, or old style Triumph
Naomi - Radian, FPSVD, old style Triumph, or if it fit, a 22lb Snugride

Our primary seats right now are the RN XT and Regent. If they disappeared DD1 would ride in her TB but DD2 would SOL. And I would cry. I can't get anything worth spending the $$ on around here locally.
One day I will get DD2 new primary seat and put that back in reserves (but the move has showen how well it fits in everyone else's car but mine).
DS's primary seat is a MA & our backup is a TF. He'll use the TF once he hits 29 lbers because the MA is a 30lb rfing limit one:thumbsdown:

Hmm.
Kaylee is 9 and rides primarily in a Monterrey. She'd use our spare Parkway.
Lexie is 6 and rides primarily in a Radian XT (well, she will when it gets here). She'd use the spare True Fit.
Austin is 4 and rides primarily in a Radian XT. He'd use the spare Marathon.

my boys only seats are the two Frontiers in our only car.
if our car got stolen, than we would just need to wait for the replacement or rental car for DH to get new car seats.
if our car seats are stolen, than DH would just drive to nearby BRU for replacement Frontiers.
my boys only ride the car on weekends so its not too stressful.

Mya rides primarily in the Frontier, she would have to go to my spare Turbobooster (but someone will have to sit next to her to make sure she sits properly).
Eli rides primarily in the Marathon, he would go to the Radian.

If all the seats in the van disappeared, unless I was able to get to my parents who are 2.5 hours away, all I would have left are an older AOE, a soon to expire MA, a SR/C and a Highrise.
I could keep everyone in a seat, but I'm fairly sure DD2 is too tall for the MA so she'd have to use the AOE as a booster, and DD2 would go in the MA, DS2 in the SR/C and DS1 in the Highrise.
Honestly, I think I would lean toward letting DS1 go without rather than that though so we could do DD2 in the AOE harnessed, DD2 in the SR/C and DS2 in the Highrise. DS1 is over 4'9" now and around 80lbs. I do still like him better in a lbb, but the fit's fairly acceptable w/o in vehicles we've tried recently. That will also be my only scenario after the MA expires this winter.

Kolin is in a Regent, Ava in a Marathon (RFing) & Aden is in a SS1.
If those disappeared Kolin would use the Vivo High Back Booster, Ava would use Kolin's Regent that is in Grandpas truck & Aden would use the Roundabout.
I am planning on buying Ava a Nautilus soon for Grandpas truck/back up.

All I have are an SS1, MA and Graco LBB (which is not being used). So if my seats were all taken then we'd all have to stay home....as DD wouldn't have a seat, and Ds#2 isn't heavy enough to fit the booster. I'd have to order online as DH wouldn't pick up the right seats....LOL

I've sold just about everything that weren't using lol I live in a small space...that's all I'm saying.. So Connor's primary seat is a marathon and the only other seat's I have is an avenue and a turbo booster in my trunk for kids who try to get in my car in nothing and there is no way c is riding in a booster.
So he's back the avenue

N would go into a parkway that is his seat in DH's car (used rarely, N is a fabulous booster rider).
G would go into a Nautilus that is currently his backup seat.

Ella (Regent) would go into her Nautilus, I'm not ready for her to ride that much in a booster. And her dad would just have to deal with it (she is only with him 4 days per month)
Connor (Olli) would go into his turbo backless, he needs the PW for head support in my mom's car.

DD's main seat is a Regent...the Nauti is in DH's car so if the Regent disappeared, the Nauti would move into the van and be her primary seat. If both of those were gone, she'd ride in a HB Turbo.

If just the ones in my car disappeared, M would still be in a seat belt and I'd take A's other GN out of my mom's car. But, if ALL those ones disappeared, A would either be in the Boulevard (if she still fit, I haven't checked since Christmas) or the high back turbobooster. And M in a seat belt, at this point we're keeping the Frontier in my mom's car since she five step tests in mine.

DS1 10yo primary seat is a cosco backless. he'd have to go to nothing i think. with an OK-ish fit
DS2 almost 9yoprimary is in monterey. he'd prolly have to go to nothing as well & that'll be BAD FIT.
DD 5yo primary is regent. she'd get the turbo booster
DS3 almsot 3yo primary is FPSVD. he'd get the apex.
this is not a very safe alternative so really we'd have to stay home til we got new seats

Sicne we spend a lot of time in the car, if the seats just Poofed, chances are my kids would be very confusedly riding in nothing but a 2007 kia optima. o_0
The main seats are a nautilus and Rf AOE. The backups are a hbTB and a RF titan, although since i DO still have a frontier, dd might ride in that instead of the turbo.

We had an accident recently and had to do just this. I had a comfortsport and a truefit in the car (lucky me--usually it's 2 TFs but I had to clean it). They're riding in an Uptown and the 2nd Truefit until DH gets on the ball filing a claim.
If THEY were to disappear, we'd be stuck at home.

Hmmm...well, we are doing respite for 2 kids for the rest of this week. I have enough seats (I think) to accommodate everyone if I had too....
Big A: In a GN would use Turbo from my parents house
C: FF in MA would use GN from dh's car or my parent's house
Little A: In RF Radian if it were emergency he would go in the Chase from my parents house
J: in KF30 ooohhhh...can't transport her if all the seats currently in my car disappeared. I only have 2 RF seats (besides her KF) and they are both in the car right now!
My kids usually ride in:
A: GN (see above) but more likey, would replace with the GN from my parent's house since he rides in a booster great if he is not in the car with any other kids...
C: MA would replace with Radian

Hrm, tough one.
Macha's in a Husky; she'd be in a Radian, moved from the 3rd row to the 2nd.
Fighter's in a Start; he'd be in a backless FPSVB with an 86Y, still in the 3rd row.
Thomas is in nothing; he'd move to the 3rd row and get yelled at a lot to sit still. And leave his brother alone, because those two do nothing but argue when they sit together!
Sam's in a backless Air; he'd be in nothing. I'm out of extra boosters! I'd have to see about stealing one from my mom.

This kind of happened to us last month. Hubby took our Ody to the shop, and they called us later to say it would take 3 days to fix. Since all the kids' primary seats were in the Ody, I had to use what was at home for the trip to the dealer to pick up the rental car with Nadia & Kira.
Roman usually rides in a Parkway, but does pass the 5 Step Test in some vehicles, including the 3rd row of our Ody, so he'd either be seat-less, or I'd have to borrow one of FIL's Parkways.
Eva usually rides in a a Parkway. She could use the Clek Olli. If she needed a HBB, it would have to be FIL's other Parkway.
Nadia has a Marathon in the Ody. For the trip, I put her in the Concord Lift I bought when we were living in Germany. I suppose I could have had her use the legal Olli, but I really wanted the Lift's SIP for Hubby's old Cavalier.
Kira currently uses the Roundabout in the Ody, but I put the Symphony in the Cav for this trip. She'll switch back to the Symphony when she outgrows the Roundabout RF, anyway.

thats interesting. we went to toyota to get the corolla's computer fixed. the technician told us it would take about a week as they are short of the parts. so we had to remove our 2 car seats from our corolla and install them on the loaner car (also a corolla). my boys were happily playing in the showroom's kids play area :) while DH did all the remove and installing of the car seats.
we did the same thing when we pick up our repaired car from toyota. just remove from loaner and install back into our car.

We'd be screwed!:o
My 8 yo who rides in a Clek Oto would ride in a backless Turbo or go could without a booster in my third row.
My 4 yo (65 lbs) who rides in a Frontier would ride in his Compass B510.
My 2 yo (30lbs) would have to stay home or ride in the Turbo mentioned above with the put back on...but I would never do that unless my husband was on his death bed and I had to get to the hospital to say my final goodbye...that is how desperate the emergency would have to be.

Ds2- husky

Only extra seats are a touriva, that only dd2 can ride in. We do have built-ins in dhs minivan that will be replaced by the end of July. So we would be in trouble if our seats disappeared. Also ds2 is only 3 and the only seats that work for him are the regent and frontier, which are not sold locally. So, ds2 would be staying home for a while.

We only have 1 spare seat, at the moment, Seth is in a Nautilus, and Jacob in the EFTA, the radian is our spare, I don't think I'd like Jacob in it right now, I've become oddly protective of him lately. so I'd leave the boys with Daddy and go get either another EFTA for Jacob, or a scenera, which i think I'll get for him in the truck once DH is back to work, so that we don't have to switch vehicles in the middle of the day, when I'm working.

I would grab the seats from my mom's van. Or is that cheating? If so:
DD would have to go in the FPSV booster we just got. She's too tall for anything else.
DS would have a few options. I would put him in our Diplomat but he would also fit in our Alphasport and as a last resort, our EB FF combo seat.
This is actually one of the reasons I wanted to get a decent booster as a spare. DD doesn't fit in any of our spare seats (at least with the harness) and unfortunately I can't trust DH or anyone else driving her in an emergency to install a carseat or convert one to booster mode. After I'm done using it for our neighbors' kid I put it back in the closet, adjusted to DD's height, with a picture of her in it taped to the seat. And there's directions already on the side too.

thats interesting. we went to toyota to get the corolla's computer fixed. the technician told us it would take about a week as they are short of the parts. so we had to remove our 2 car seats from our corolla and install them on the loaner car (also a corolla). my boys were happily playing in the showroom's kids play area :) while DH did all the remove and installing of the car seats.
We did get the primary seats out of the Ody and move them to the loaner car (which was a 5 passenger Malibu  ), but we had to get to the dealership first. FIL had gone with Hubby to drop the Ody off in the a.m., but I had to drive him out to pick up the loaner, and since Kira & Nadia are both too young to stay home without an adult, we had to take them with us. Fortunately, we did have spare seats for the two of them.

Hmm, all of my seats are currently installed in cars right now, but if the Como came up missing, DD would be in a FPSVD, if both seats in my car were missing, she would probably be in the Scenera that is currently in Dh's aunt's van. If the FPSVD in Dh's truck was missing, she'd go into the FPSVD that is in my car. If any of the other seats disappeared, she'd be in my FPSVD as well. Although that would probably upset her as she knows what seats are supposed to be in certain cars. I had to wash the cover on the seat in dh's truck and installed the other FPSVD (with a different cover) and she wanted HER seat back. Weird kid.

DS is in a Radian Premiere (Radian 80), and if that vamoosed then I would have to either use his Nautilus, or his other Radian 80 (from Grandma's car)... LOL or the other AO seat from the other Grandparents car. For one child he has an awful lot of seats thats for sure.

dh and have Regents for dd, who is 1/2" from outgrowing them
I just gave a TB away, which would leave a PW
was thinking about getting a Dakota Combi for "just in case" ($29 at BJ's)
I'm waiting to see what will be out there when she finally outgrows the Regent
Originally, I thought the Monterey would be a good choice....she's got a long torso and is on the chunky side, now I'm seeing the "new" PW
I dunno

I'd have to buy new seats. I have 3 kids & 3 seats. Well, atm I have a 4th seat, but it's borrowed. I think it's insane enough that I have 3 seats, including a Radian, when I don't have a car, but I needed to be able to do 3 accross when we go in someone else's car.
