saferider vest or something else?

I am planning ahead to next school year. Ds will be riding home with a friend on wed. Ds is currently 43#, turned 3 in March, about 16" torso (guess, almost outgrown bv by torso height). Car has no tethers. Ds only seat is husky, so moving it is not an option. If saferider vest, what size? He would use it with lap/shoulder belt.

We have a size small for DS, 4 1/2, about 40" and just had a growth spurt, so not sure on the height. It looked good just sitting on a chair when it came. We haven't had a chance to try it in the car yet.

I can't remember where in Iowa you are. We will likely be there once or twice in the summer. Depending on where you are, we could throw the vest in the car and let you try it out to see how it fits.

I will be teaching her and she is good about carseat safety. She doesn't have room in her minisuv to have a seat for him everyday.
