DS (13mo) & l are taking the train from NC to DC.
l may need a carseat while we are in DC. Can l bring it on the train or should l check it? What about the stroller?
We're travelling coach.
Any other advice?

you can bring the car seat on the train if there are empty seats, assuming you didnt buy a seat for your son. the train works just like the plane as far as seating goes.
ive never had a problem bring the car seat on the train as its never been full.
just keep in mind that there arent seatbelts, at least not on any of the trains ive been on!
depending on your train you can bring the stroller on board and store it in your car at the luggage rack or store it below. below might be the best option as you dont really need it/have room for it on board.

I've been on a full train with my car seats. Don't check it, there's a carryon luggage allowance and they will let you carry on your car seat and, if there's no room near you, stow it in the racks on the entry level of the train with the suitcases and such. Even on a full train, I've never actually checked baggage. We've never had so many bags we needed to. We just stowed our bags on the racks, too. Ditto strollers (though we only ever bring umbrella strollers, since we're bringing car seats and want to be courteous to the other passengers on the train and not take up a whole rack ourselves.)
