I just switched my Recaro Como FF today and think I have it in correctly. But I'm questioning the purpose of the FF only vehicle belt guide, which is the gray piece in the picture, the vehicle belt comes nowhere near it. It has a lever thing on it that you can pull down and it springs back. Both the instruction manual pics and my installation look near identical, not involving that guide at all. Any insight, and does my install look good? Its very solid in the seat, like no side to side movement.

That guide is for the shoulder belt. You have one on each side of the seat, and you only use the one on the side that the shoulder belt enters

Ahhhh, thank you very much! I knew there'd be people smarter than me on here! :)

I won't be using it then, since its LATCH installed.

Does your vehicle allow center LATCH use? Or is the seat outboard? I am having a hard time determining.

It's an 01 Taurus. I had her infant car seat installed middle, and the techs used LATCH. Hopefully they were accurate?

Hopefully they checked, but it is best to make sure. Do you have your vehicle owners manual? It should tell you in there if you can use the lower anchors in the center position. Also, how much does the child weigh? Your vehicle will have a maximum weight that can used with LATCH as well. For most vehicles that is 40lbs.

Any techs have a LATCH manual handy to check?

Center LATCH is allowed in 01 Taurus, but keep in mind that only one seat can be LATCH into an anchor.

Ford is 48lbs for LATCH

60lbs for the tether anchor (shell type car seat) and 80lbs tether anchor (harness without a shell)

However, a question for the OP.

You mentioned the infant seat was installed in the center with LATCH, is your child just switching out of the infant seat now? If that is the case, then there's a good chance your child would fit rfing (which is safest) for quite a while yet.

Good catch Kimberly! As was said, if baby is just transitioning out of an infant carrier, do make sure you not only get the info for why rear facing is so much safer, but take that knowledge into practice! :) We are more than happy to help in that dep., just let us know! :)

Oh yes, I'm a HUGE advocate of the RF "forever". That's why I bought the Recaro since it RF so high and FF 5 point harnesses all the way up.

She's 2, been RFing up til yesterday when I flipped it. It's just a temporary thing for a few weeks d/t needing to put 4 car seats in the vehicle & how they will best fit, then I'll be putting it back RF til she meets the limits which will be probably another 1.5 years or so, she's a petite thing.
