There is a covering over the part that is attached to the floor. I have not looked to see if this can come off (I thought that I read somewhere that you could remove). It goes over the whole thing, top and sides? Just wondering if anyone here knew the answer. Also I don't remember seeing in my manual the Latch weight limits, does anyone know that? I'm going to try to figure out photobucket tonight so that I can post pictures of my istall on the MA for my 18lbs 27+inch little one. I think the the angle looks a little to upright but I'm not sure. He looks so little in his "Big Boy" car seat. He looked huge his Graco. LOL.
TIA,
Tammy

Kia did not state or provide a LATCH installation weight limit for the LATCH manual, so you'll need to abide by the LATCH weight limit in the instruction manual for the particular carseat you're using.
I don't know specifically if there's a way to remove the plastic covering from the front seat leg in your Optima to give you enough clearance to loop your Britax convertible's rear facing D-ring tether connector strap around the front seat leg. You could gently try to pop or pry off the plastic cover to see if that's workable. If not, another option would be to tether to a front seatbelt buckle stalk if the stalk is connected directly to the vehicle floor. You also have the option of rear facing tethering "Austrialian style" by routing the top tether strap directly over the top of your rear facing Britax convertible and clipping it directly to the tether anchor normally used for a forward facing installation. The drawback to the Australian method is the awkwardness of loading and unloading the child into the convertible carseat with the tether strap routed directly over the top of the carseat.
You might also want to post a picture of the front seat leg and area under the front seat to see if anyone can make more specific suggestions for rear facing tethering spots in your car.
