...at a certain height/weight? I helped a friend with her car seats yesterday and she didn't have the manuals handy. I don't know if there are different versions of the Apex 65 but the cover said Alpha something. She's still using the padded insert for her two boys, ages 2 and 4. The 4 year old weighs 35lbs, but I don't know how much the 2 year old weighs. My guess is somewhere between 30-35lbs. Both boys are using the second to top slots.

Only when you are using the top slot, which the insert doesn't accomodate.

i just checked my manual & there isn't a spot that i can see that talks about the padding. other than its optional. i don't see a reason to stop using it in the top harness slot. the pad is still held in place with the crotch buckle. i still use the pad in the top harness position. i would think tho when /if used as a booster that the pad should def be out since nothing would be holding it from sliding around.

Thanks Ginny. I will tell her that she needs to dig up her manuals, and if she can't find them then she'll need to contact the manufacturer for new manuals or look it up online. Then she'll know for sure what rules do or do not apply to her specific model.

The manuals I've read haven't talked about having to remove the insert at any point either. And she should definitely be able to access her manual online if she writes down the model # and DOM.

Yep, mine doesn't have a limit on using the padding.

I think the only reason I'd remove the padding (if there's no requirement) would be to squeeze the very last bit of room out of the harness!! lol Just my thought. :shrug-shoulders:
