clean, no stains walmart type shirts and shorts, like the garanimals line they had?
I'm going through a big basket of outgrown stuff to sell, and I'm pricing it by the piece as well as for the whole lot. I've been doing $.25 and $.50 for pieces, and some nicer stuff I've been doing for $1.
I can't decide what to price the garanimals stuff, is $.50 too high, or is $.25 too low? Not all of it is garanimals, I have stuff from all over, some childrens place, some target, some old navy, etc.
I also have a bag of stuff from last year, but has mild stains. Should I list that as free, or like $.05 or something per piece? Or maybe just list the whole bag at like $5 or something?

Garage sale, craigslist, consignment? If you're doing garage sale, I think the pricing is about right...I'd probably try .50c a piece, and if someone offers .25, I'd just take it. For the stained stuff, I'd think you'd have better luck selling for .05 each than the whole bag at once. If you're doing craigslist, I think it's best to have just a price for the lot...I think it sells better that way.

It's for a local site like CL. I have tired to do whole lots there before and nothing ever sold, so I decided to do it per piece or they can buy the whole lot if they want. I'm going to take pics of pieces that are priced the same together, and then just put in the captions the price per piece for anything in that pic. For example, "anything in pic #1 is $.50 per piece, anything in pic #2 is $1 per piece, etc or the whole lot is $x" (I havent decided what my lot price will be yet.)

For garanimal brand I would pay no more than .25 at a garage sale, I buy them for Logan's play clothes at preschool.
Circo line I would pay .50 for (just because I can find them dirt cheap on target clerance)
Old navy-depending on how old the line is:
Newer line: 1.00-2.00
Older line: .75-1.00
(Same with children's place)

I think $0.50 per piece is right. When you offer it up in lots, I would separate the better brands. I think selling in lots is easier - you don't want to deal with people coming for one or two items. Based on that price point, I'd target lots of around $15.00...

I sell my stuff at our local multiples sale twice a year. The WM stuff, if it's still OK I price at $1 a piece, usually. Occasionally 50 cents. I get 90% of what I price when I volunteer to work. I price to sell and usually don't bring much back home after the sale.
But I wouldn't get that price if I did a garage sale. I'd probably price at 50 cents or 25 cents if I just wanted it gone.

I'll be honest, I don't think the prices you are charging are worth your time and effort to take pics, post them, and deal with people sending you email, having to meet them some place or be home for them to pick up a 25 or 50 cent shirt. A garage sale would be different because you're outside with your stuff all day anyway. For those prices, I'd either save it all until I had a garage sale, or donate it.
As for stuff with stains, I personally wouldn't sell it or donate it. I'd cut up the t-shirts into rags for washing the car wheels, the floor, the bathroom, etc.

I'm not taking individual pictures, I have way too much stuff for that.
I took 3 pictures, because I have 3 different prices. I'm home all the time anyway (unless I'm at the park next door, but can easily walk back home).
I don't have anything else to sell, so I can't wait until a garage sale.
I do want them gone, but I want to make a little money off them, I still need to buy a few more summer things for my kids.

I would just sell in lots... not individually. It's too much hassle, and you'll still be left with some odd items in the end. To get rid of them all I'd just make sure they are all in good condition, not faded or stained. Then seperate them into sized lots. I don't know how big your lot is... but just price them like at $20 a bag. Or whatever...

Holly, while I think your pricing is right now, I think it might be wasting a bit of your time having to deal with Craigslist folk.
Is there way maybe you could have a garage sale?
I had amazing success last year, when I marked both of my kids clothes, hung them up in the garage on a closet bar hung between two ladders and took ONE picture of all of the clothes. For some reason this worked. I had probably 12 people in two days come from craigslist to "go shopping." It was wonderful and I made alot more money than I would have had I had a garage sale.
I said on my listing that 98% of the stuff was brand name, and all in good-excellent condition. I also told them that nothing was marked over $5, and that most pieces were marked $1-$2.
My cheapy clothes like what you are trying to sell, I just donate :)

I sold the whole lot yesterday! I figured out how much it would be for everything with the prices I gave them, then I discounted it a few dollars, so it would be a better deal to buy the whole lot.

Great news - doesn't it feel great to get rid of stuff you aren't using!
