right .. so i need to use either or .. but not both when installing my seats .. i have heard that and just wanted to ask here .. since their are so many knowledgeable mommas here :D

That is correct, one or the other but never both.

Also remember that many cars have limits on LATCH use, so after your child reaches the LATCH limit weight you must install using the seatbelt, presuming your child restraint weight limit goes over as well.

And.....in many cars, using LATCH in the center is not allowed.

Check your vehicle manual if you are unsure.

LATCH stands for Lower Anchors and Tether's for CHildren.

So, just to be clear, you cannot use both the seatbelt and the Lower Anchors portion of the LATCH

But (for forward facing installs) you can install with the seatbelt and still use the top Tether portion of the LATCH together...in fact...it is recommended.

If you are installing rearfacing, only Britax and Radians can use the top tether rearfacing.
