my son is 6 months old and has had good head control for some time. We just got him a true fit, and installed it today. He doesn't quite need the headrest yet, but is pretty close by height I think. So we wanted to install it with the headrest. It doesn't quite make the 45* angle with the headrest, but I thought the "older baby" meant with head control? But we just got back from the store and he fell asleep and was all slumped :(
So I guess really my question is if I'm crazy that my 6 month old can be more upright? Should I just suck it up and take the headrest off to get more recline? He seemed to fit ok without the padding, would putting the padding back in help any?
Oh! and it's touching the seatback in front right now (and I don't know how we'd get it any more upright and still rfing) my reading of the manual seems to imply this is ok, but it doesn't say that outright. Is that right?

Was his head slumping to the side or was his chin on his chest?

His head was slumping to the side.

To the side is okay. My son does that too. You can also put just the head insert thing back in and not the whole infant insert if you want to. I took ours and let my son use it when we went on a long trip.

Yep, slumping to the side is totally fine and has nothing to do with the angle. My almost 4 year old slumps her head to the side when she sleeps in her seat too. Putting the padding back in might help--my 2 year old still has the padding in her True Fit and it gives her a place to rest her head.

Yep, it certainly doesn't look comfortable does it ;) Try the padding back in, or roll a couple of receiving blankets and put those next to baby's torso and head for some head support.

Just wanted to make sure that you are just using the head support pillow and NOT the full body infant insert padding unless the child is less than 22 lbs - the big piece needs to come out at 22 lbs as per the manufacturer.

From what I gathered in the OP, he was under 22 pounds since he didn't need the headrest but was close to the height.

Yeah, he's not even 20lbs yet, but I totally didn't see that so thanks.
