I helped a family with a Safety 1st Intera the other day at our check. We took the base/backless booster part off to fit 3 across the backseat of the car.
After you remove the base, can you ever put it back on? Is it hard to get back on? I was thankful for the pliers to get the rod out. None of our other techs had ever removed a base from a 3-in-1.

You just set the top on the base, line up the holes, and shove the rod back through. It is easier to get it back on than it is to get off (imo).

I can't say that I've ever felt the need to put the base back ON a 3 in 1.
