Had to be pretty cozy in the cab with 6 people, including two CR. . .Gotta wonder at the logic. Obviously the adults were aware of need for child restraints.

A standard pick up simply is not a viable option for a family of 6.

No, but it happens a lot around here. :( I saw some really serious gross misuse lately in a standard little car and there was actually an "extra" child riding in the floorboard. The infant seats weren't even snapped in, and I was venting to my DH. I was saying we need more education and flyers here to help them get their seats in and he said (realize he's worked with the immigrant population here for years) "They usually can't write or read what they speak. If they come from the poorest sections of Mexico or South America, they can speak but are sometimes illiterate otherwise. A spanish manual does them no good. And some of them don't even speak Spanish, they speak a dialect that is very hard to interpret b/c they're so remote".

So they come here and see carseats and they just figure they're accustomed to riding all piled in trucks , and yeah. :( They usually figure they're doing good just to HAVE a carseat and sit the baby in it.

That sweet baby was very very fortunate.

Actually,I disagree...in my experience, they don't "figure they're doing good just to HAVE a carseat". honestly, they don't think ANYthing about safety, PERIOD..they HAVE to have a carseat to get the kid home from the hospital,and that's it. That's all they figure.

And I hear you abpout the dialects and illiteracy....I work with the hispanic immigrant population here, and some clients i can understand fine and others...:eek: Might as well be Greek for all I can understand (ftr, I do not speak Greek:p) I have to read our handouts to quite a few of them....
