Unsecured Infant Ejected From Car In Willmar
WILLMAR, Minn. (WCCO) ―

Witnesses reported seeing the vehicle driving fast and making a hard left turn, causing the rear passenger door to come open and the baby to fall out.

A 4-week-old infant that was not buckled into its car seat was ejected from a moving car in Willmar....

:crying: This is so sad! That baby had some gaudarian angels watching over!

Now I hope that mother gets some :twocents: in her! It makes me wonder what was going on in her life that could cause her not to use the brains that god gave her. I know I have been in some pretty bad shape before, but I ALWAYS made sure Josef was IN his car seat AND buckled before driving away. To make matters worse, this car seat was not even installed  WHAT was this mother thinking?!

I'm thinking majorly sleep deprived and possibly severe PPD and perhaps other stressors in her very young life.

Amazing the baby was OK.

Hope the mom gets the help she needs.

P1ally,

when the door is not closed properly, it can fly open when the car is at fast speed.

DH' car had a indicator to say not all the car doors are closed properly but he can still drive off.

my aunt's car door had flew open many times when I was a 5yr old kiddo with no seatbelt on the way home from school. my aunt just tell me to bang shut the car door. the car didnt have any indicator to tell if all doors were closed properly.

WHAT was this mother thinking?!

She probably wasn't thinking- was preoccupied with something else or just uneducated :( . Thankfully she has a second chance to be a mom to her baby.

That is very sad, I'm so glad the baby is OK tho!

That's strange bc I saw something like this today at my LOs dr's appt...there were 2 ladies and 4 kids parked in 1 car next to me..how they all fit I do not know. And then she takes out her newborn's car seat..I could tell it wasn't buckled in bc there was no base and she just took it right out and the baby was not buckled into the seat, I couldn't even see the straps bc there was a blanket under the baby :( The other girl must have been around 1 and was def in an expired seat. They spoke spanish, not sure if there english was too good..I wish I could've said something but I didn't know how or what.

It happened in my parents car once. It was the early 80s, the car was from the late 70s. My brother was leaning on the door, and it opened. My mom was not going fast around the corner, she had just stopped at a stop sign. Luckily brother was buckled (lap-only belt), because he was hanging out the door. He held on to the door until mom finished the turn, when he could shut the door.

Door flew open next to me once when we turned under a huge underpass...

Still, it's a problem that is relatively less common these days, I feel so bad for that mom, no matter what her story is :(

Dh was driving out of our circle (maybe 10 mph) when the doors (not shut all the way) flew open. He has an older car without sensors to warn you that the doors aren't shut all the way. The bad thing is that the front shoulder belts are attached to the doors, so if the doors fly open, the passenger is held in by only a lap belt.

I just saw a mom the other day at the wic place (I was there for 4-h) put her baby in the bucket seat and strap it into the front, middle seat of a newer truck. I'm sure if the air bag went off, baby's seat would get it too. They should warn people more about how the middle isn't safe in the front seat.

Crazy story - just saw it this morning on our local paper's website. An absolute miracle that the baby survived.

Thank God this baby is OK, a true miracle.

How does a door just fly open, unless it wasn't closed properly. I guess weirder things happen. Maybe the door itself was defective. I don't know. I don't really feel sorry for the mom :duck: one reason is her mug shot she seems irritated, like WTH you bothering me for, she doesn't look remorseful, sad, scared.
I can understand not installing the seat properly, I understand not securing the baby tight enough, that falls under lack of knowledge or understanding how important it is. But not securing either child or seat is plain old lazyness, the whole point of a car seat is so it is secured in the car and the baby is secured in the seat, it has a harness you would have to have serious comprehensive issues to not understand that the baby has to be strapped in them, not care about the law or is ignorant enough to think your child is special enough to not get hurt. Either way she was neglectful and endangered her child.

It lists a charge of "driving while impaired," so she was either drunk or on drugs. The door opening is actually one reason I always lock our car doors, although we do have the little sensor also.

The door flew open when my dad was a kid. He flew across the street. I have had my hood fly open and a door come open a little. Also, I just had a very safety concerned mom just yesterday forget to buckle in baby.
