I don't know if this has been mentioned before, but I think this would be a good and useful idea:
I think we should have an acronym/abbreviation "Glossary of Terms". When I was new to this forum I saw a lot of acronyms and abbreviation that I didn't notice. I was so embarrassed to ask fearing noone would respond or I would feel like it was a stupid questions. Being that this forum is extremely important, and could possibly save a childs life, noone should be in fear to ask ANY questions. Therefore I think a Glossary of terms would be very handy, especially since a lot of our abbreviations are not "general", meaning they are not worldy known on other websites. Here is a link giving an example of one sites Glossary of terms. It was very handy for me when I was surfing their site. http://www.urbanbaby.com/help/ Of course our Acronyms and Abbreviations would be different, but you get the idea. Here is some of my examples that would pertain directly to Carseat information. Everyone could help chime in on some ideas.
FP-Fisher Price
BV-Boulevard
MA-Marathon
CS-Carseat
DC-Decathlon
BPB-Belt positioning booster ETC.........
Thank you for listening.....:)

If people would like to contribute and you would like to summarize all the acronyms, I'd be happy to sticky it.

These are sort of neat -- my professor lists 'em in our online class:
http://www.acronymfinder.com/
http://www.acronymsearch.com/
http://www.acronyma.com/
http://www.gaarde.org/acronyms/
But, more specific to us....
RSTV = ride safer travel vest
PW = parkway
HBB = high back booster
SG = safeguard
RYS = recaro young sport/style/start
CR = child restraint

FF - forward facing

I think MA-Marathon should actually say MA-Britax Marathon, etc.... Maybe we could have that name be a link to Britax's website, so they can get the specs on the seat. Hope that makes sense? :)
Because some people may have never heard of a Britax or Marathon Carseat

I think though, for this forum---perhaps the first use in each thread should not be abbreviated, because so many will come and just post once or twice, they may not notice a sticky with the abbreviations in it.
So, if someone comes in and asks for suggestions regarding a convertible seat, and someone replies about the marathon, perhaps the first reply could have "blah blah blah Marathon (MA)..." or something
Most people don't even read the manuals to their carseats, which could be a life or death thing, we can't expect them to read all the important threads on the forum either. lol

True, but a sticky surely wouldn't hurt anything either. There are stickies all over the other forums I am on. I have found them extremely useful. :)

FWIW, I wasn't saying don't do a sticky, just that we should remember the drive by posters who drop in for a question, that's all. :)

Ok, duh, I see what you are saying!!:rolleyes::) It's been a crazy day!!!
Yeah, I think that is a good idea on top of a sticky. I try to remember on new posts that they don't necessarily know what MA and BRU means, so I try to make an effort to spell everything out. :)

If lovinwaves or someone else would like to compile a big list of acronyms, abbreviations and other CPS lingo, it would make a perfect article for the new Safety Articles forum! Whoever wants to post it can send a PM to Skipspin or bensmom (or me) to update it as needed. Thanks!

HOw about everyone post their abbreviations on this thread and then I will compile all of them into one email to send to admin, skipspin, or bensmom. HOw does that sound? I know some of the Techs and long time CPS advocates know more terms than I probably do. We can all help out to make sure we don't miss any.
I think we should have two lists. Some people may have knowledge of general web terms, but not in CPS. Or maybe one list, dunno, what do you guys think?
One list for general Web Terms like:
DD-Darling Daugher
DS-Darling Son
DH-Darling Husband
ROFL-Rolling on the floor laughing ETC........
And then the other list be common CPS Forum Terms like:
MA-Marathon
BRU-Babies R US
BV-Boulevard
AO-Alpha Omega ETC........

When you think it is done or mostly done, feel free to post it yourself on the Articles forum. That way you will get credit (and reputation clicks since it was your idea). We can always edit it later to add more.

"What does dd and ds mean?" was my first ? when coming on here. I tried to figure it out and knew it had something to do with son and daughter but finally asked :) so def add that one to the main list!

lol, the problem with acronyms for relatives is that sometimes they can be non-specific:
SIL = sister in-law?
or
SIL = son in-law?
i guess you have to rely on context (e.g., lots of "she" in the same sentence) to realize who they are referring to.
