Did anyone have a problem being able to safely drive their car after installing 2 rear facing car seats?

We have a van and after the installation, it doesn't look like I'll be able to drive it unless we put one kid in the 2nd row and another in the 3rd :(

I can drive without issue in my Honda Civic with 2 convertibles installed RFing. I have pretty long legs (34inch inseam). Do you have the seats reclined at the full 45 degrees? How old are the children in question?

I am tall and very leggy, I was able to drive an '01 Acura TL sedan with two snug rides - rf of course - followed by two Britax Roundabouts rf. Wasn't as comfortable as I had been in the past, but totally safe. I had to be a smidge more upright.

The only problem I've had is with my Recaro signo. It's on a super high base..so, it sits up very high in my small vw passat.
It causes a big blind spot ..of course..that's what mirrors are for..but, it's of course irritating and hard to change habits.
I can deal with it..and I am safe driving my car..I just had to get around that obstacle when I first installed it RFing.

My boys are 10 months and ideally I'd like to keep them rear facing until they're 35 lbs (Tru Fit). I was told that I need at least a hands width between the headrest and seat back so we'll see what happens when we go to install them. Hopefully we can do it on the one bench like we did with the snugrides or else what was the point of buying a van ;)

Who told you that? It's certainly not true. In fact, unless your vehicle specifically forbids it, the child restraints can touch the seats in front of them.

I've had at least two rearfacing seats in my car for years :)

Who told you this and what was the reasoning given? It doesn't sound right to me at all.

The car seat tech told me that, she said it was a danger to me and the child. I'll look through the manual and find out, thanks!

That is false. Unles you have a vehicle with advanced air bags, not only do you NOT need "at least a hands width between the headrest and seat back", the RF seat can be braced on the front seat.

(Exception: some Evenflo seats, specifically infant carriers.)

Even if you do have advanced airbags, as long as the RF seat isn't pressing on the front seat, just touching is not a concern.

:yeahthat:

Unfortunately you were given patently false information.

If you don't mind giving us your vague, general location, we have competent techs on this board who can meet with you and help you sort out your car seat woes :)
