3 children drown as car goes into lake

There is just no way I would have left the car alive with out my kids, at least one in each arm, then go back.

I would have one in each arm and one in my mouth. I wonder what the story is. I wonder how moms can just swim off and leave their kids. I don;t know how I would react in this situation but I don't think I could just swim off w/o my kids.
One never knows. Poor Babies.

this is my biggest fear, also. We aren't generally near water on a daily basis, but we are at least once a month or so when we head down to New Orleans. We have to go over the lake and then in the city there is water in between the lanes (instead of a "median" or neutral ground as it is called down here). There are obviously side walls going over the lake, but nothing on the streets. The side walls aren't 100% insurance you won't go into the lake. I've seen a car teeter-tottering the wall and and those people are luck they didn't go all the way in. I hold my breath going over the lake thinking of my game plan. I am not TOO concerned about the streets as it's probably not very deep and people would be able to jump in and help. ahhh.. I hate thinking of something like this happening. It's a "worse case scenerio" for me.

I am quite interested in how they all drowned. How could she not at least save ONE of them??? And what were they doing out at 3am? I really hope this isn't a repeat of the case back in the early 90's I think it was where a mother drove her 2 little boys into a lake :cry:

Dh and I were just talking about this last night. I would have my big girl on my back, holding onto m tight and one of the others in each arm. That's the best I could come up with. So sad.

ETA: I just read that they were 2, 7 and 8. I'm thinking you just need to get the 2 big ones out of the car and they can swim. Or at the very least, they could each hold tightly to an arm. I can't imagine leaving without my kids, but the instinct to survive is strong. A person cannot choose to drown.

I read this article yesterday evening and than read the news of the 3 children drown in Arkansas lake news this morning.

The texas driver was intoxicated, trying to answer a handphone call and had 6 kids + his brother in the car. only 1 child and the 2 adults survived.

That's terrible :( But I don't know, it didn't say what the conditions were--we don't know that she didn't try to save them, though the way they talked about charges, it sounds sketchy. I really hope not, that stuff is awful.

I saw a news story just a day or two ago about 5 children drowning, 2 adults and an older child escaped--they were all in a sedan...

Things like this break my heart...there is no way I would have left my baby in that car. I would have gotten him out or died trying...you would think she could have at least saved the older two , or gotten them loose and swam out with the baby....

My DH & I have talked about this. If that ever happened & praying we were both still able to move who would grab which kids. I could not leave the car without my kids :(

I dunno. They were drunk weren't they? Maybe if sober they might have tried saving kids. Who knows. In those situations (underwater, floods, etc), it's hard enough to get out yourself, let alone trying to bring a kid with you. But if drunk, the adults were lucky enough to even get out with their own lives.
