I read another thread that said that newer Radians had updated features and that these started taking effect Sept 08-ish.

I bought one Radian Premier, DOM Nov. 29/08 - I'm new to carseats, so I'm not sure if this has newer features because I don't know what I'm looking for.

We just bought a second Premier with a DOM of April 19/08, and I haven't gotten the chance to compare them yet, but I had a few questions.

1. Do these changes appear on the Radian80/Premier or just XT?
2. Would any of these changes make one seat easier to RF than the other? Or better suited to a newborn than an older child?

Once I get the seat out to the car and have them side by side I'm sure I'll be able to spot differences if they're there.. I just need to know what to look for.

Thanks in advance!

There's a link in my siggy to a thread full of pics comparing the "old" and "new." The change for US seats was September 08 DOM. I don't know if they happened at the same time for Canadian seats.

The changes are for the 65 and 80 as well as the XT.

The two easiest changes to spot are the metal bar that wraps around the side of the shell, and the change in the RFing foot.

The new RFing foot may make it easier to get a bit more upright install RFing. The bar that wraps around the side provides additional side impact support, so I would give that to the heavier child (all other things being equal).

Judi got some pictures of the new and old foot and we found a difference of about 5 degrees or so. We installed the seats both RF in my Element with the foot they came with and then switched the feet old with new and new with old and re installed, there was a 5 degree difference in the other direction so the best we could tell is that the new foot will give you a 5 degree change in incline, as in 40 degrees instead of 45 and that's with doing nothing more than just installing it, no playing around with bite or anything!!

In other words, the older style foot might be better for achieving a 45 degree angle for a new or young infant. :-)

If you use the RFing tether on the Radian, you are allowed to use it to increase the recline angle by tightening the tether.
