SURREY, B.C. - Mounties in Surrey, B.C., say a woman who died in a car accident last month appears to have been killed by her laptop computer.
Heather Storey, 25, was driving to work March 16 when her vehicle was hit by a tow truck. Storey's laptop was sitting unsecured in her back seat and RCMP spokesman Sgt. Roger Morrow says the vehicle's abrupt stop sent the computer flying into the back of Storey's head. The force of the blow was so severe that it shattered the computer's screen and bent the frame.
The coroner determined that Storey died as a result of blunt force trauma.
Morrow says investigators believe the accident was survivable and that police are warning the public to secure their belongings while driving.

Wow. I wonder what brand the laptop was. I don't know about other brands, but I've purposely tried to destroy an old hp. It took several tosses off the third floor balcony (about 40 feet total drop) to get that kind of damage to the laptop.

Wow what did that lap to do to you to deserve that? :ROTFLMAO:

It was just time for it to ... die. Kinda like when a CRS expires, it's fun to take out any pent up frustrations. Yeah, it was fun. Good exercise too, since I had to keep running up and down all those stairs to pick it up and toss it again.

A very good real life case example. Sometimes we need to hear this stuff and I'm glad the police sent the message out.

FWIW I don't think a 3 story fall comes close the comparing to the forces in a crash, even if she wasn't going that fast.

That was kinda my point. I had to toss the laptop a couple of times before it had a comparable amount of damage, yet I wouldn't want to catch the laptop with my head from 40 feet.

According to the CPST student manual, a car going 40 mph would hit a tree with the same force as hitting the ground after falling off a 50 foot cliff. So, my laptop may have hit the ground around 30-35 mph. Maybe it is rather comparable, after all.

B.C. woman likely killed by laptop (http://www.vancouversun.com/news/woman+likely+killed+laptop/1500204/story.html)

My mom was just telling me about this and thought I would share it with you all. It is a short read and not graphic.

For those not wanting to read the whole article it is about a women that was in a collision and her collided with a tow truck.

"The engineer looked at the car and thought this was a wholly survivable collision," he said.

However, she suffered blunt force trauma to the back of her head, from what the coroner later surmised was due to her laptop, which was damaged in the collision. "
