I'm flying in 2 months with my 6yo. He's just over 40lbs and just under 4 feet right now. He'll be in his size small Saferider vest at our destination. Do you think I need to purchase or rent a CARES harness for the airplane portion of our trip? Because of our schedule, the cost of renting would almost equal the cost of buying (about $70). I'm all about safety, but since the CARES only goes to 44lbs, and money is a consideration, do I really need it, or is my son big enough to be in just a seatbelt? Thoughts? Thank you!

I'd just use a seat belt.

:yeahthat:
I would have no problem with a 6 year old just in a plane's seatbelt.

Thank you for your input. I feel better about going with my first decision to just let him use the plane's seatbelt. I'll just stick with that. He does understand the Ridesafer is non-negotiable.

Yes, he absolutely needs a restraint in the car, but on the plane, since he is above 40 pounds and 6YO, I'd have no problem with him in a seatbelt.

I agree with everyone, though you'll find that a 40 pounder will look small in an airplane seat. If you have another child who will get use out of the CARES, then I'd consider buying it, but the plane's belt will work fine on a child over 40 lbs.

Watch the blog (http://www.carseatblog.com) next week for my review of it from when we went on our trip last week.
