We're expecting our third child in May....I just realized that the Peg Perego I had for my son (DOM January 2003) is expired, and I've been looking for a new seat. I have a Peg stroller, but I refuse to pay $300 for another Peg carseat which will only last me 5 months. So I had decided on the Graco Safeseat in Ionic pattern from Sears online, which sells for $179.00. I have found one at a different store for $129.00, but the DOM is June 2007. So....

1. Do you think it matters that it is already two years old? This is likely our last baby, although my husband keeps talking about having four. If we did go for a fourth, we would keep the last two very close in age, so would most likely be before this seat expires in four years.

2. I know they will be discontinuing the Safeseat...the Snugride 32 is $199.00 at TRU...should I be looking for their newer model?

3. I'm not sure I love the fabric on the Ionic Safeseat...looks kind of "spongy" to me. Does anybody have experience with this fabric?

TIA

Hi,

As long as you think you'll be done having babies by the time the SS1 for $129 expires, then I think it's just fine to buy a seat that's lost some of it's lifespan. Just make sure it isn't a floor model and that all tags are attached, etc.

I don't think we all need to be looking at SR32's and fully ignoring the SS1's that are still available. The SS1 takes most babies to their first birthday, it has some great user friendly features, and as time goes on, I'm sure prices will continue to come down in prep for the SR32 to take over.

I have no experience with the Ionic fabric, unless it's similar to French Roast?

I have a post about a pattern for the SR32 that I found and fell in love with. Someone had mentioned that the Ionic pattern made their daughter very hot and every time they pulled her out of the seat she was sweaty.

It was not very soft or breathable. The SS1 is basically the same seat and you are more likely to get deals on it because of the SR32. One is not essentially better then the other from what I know of.
