Hi folks - I am looking for a pair of shoes that my DS (size 7 W) can wear for easter. He will be wearing a baby blue pin stripe pair of overalls. They can even be tennis shoes - but I have a few requirements...

Cannot look like gym shoes - keds style is fine
Prefer less rigid shoes
Must be basically all-white (no logos or decals).

Problem is he has a wide foot - so I can't get cheapie payless shoes.

I'd like to get them for a reasonable price and would even be willing to buy used if they were in very good condition.

Any ideas?

These stride-rites are my only solution right now. I've found them on ebay - so that is what I will do if I don't get other suggestions. (Parker or Jamie Style)

You are ruling out an EXCELLENT source! I had NO idea before, but Payless actually has a WONDERFUL line of little kid's shoes that go up to at least a toddler sz. 7 that are REAL leather, and come in WW. Several Easters ago, my son wore a pair of the white ones in about a sz. 7. THey have a certian style that is VERY traditional looking (think the bronzed baby shoe.) And the budget is right. Check out your local Payless that carries the kid's line. I'll look for a link for ya. Both my boys had super-wide feet, and these shoes were REALLY soft, and came in several widths. Really nice. They also came in black, and (I kid you not) I bought at least 2 pairs in every size, so they had several pairs to go back and forth in.

ETA: OK, here's a link. I know this says they only go to 6 Wide, but I htink they can go bigger. Also, they tend to run big. Just check around. They are soft and buttery. I loved them. And for $14.99 (or even cheaper, if they are on sale!) you can hardly go wrong.....over those nearly $50 Stride Rites. Heck, your DS will prob. only wear them for a few hours, or to get his Easter portrait taken!

Hey Ruthie - Thanks!

Those did not come up in my payless search - because I started in the toddler section - and the toddler section did not have any wides in the style I was looking for.

Emandbri - DH would kill me if I got my son those sandals. My son only gets the rugged, hiking looking sandals. Also - it is still pretty cold here - so I need to be a little practical.

How about these Preschoolians? http://preschoolians.com/Running-Jumping-Barefoot-Sport-Stretch-Slip-On-White-Grey-Navy They come in 2 styles of white, one with a mesh top and one in leather. DD has had these exact shoes, but in colours, and she loves them. Super easy to put on, adjustible for wide feet (and in fact, come with THREE footbeds for different widths of feet) and very comfy and VERY flexible. I am not sure how old he is, but you could also go with the "walker" sole which is slightly thinner but also less expensive. They likely have some other styles in all white, there were just so many to look at!

You could also do a design your own style. You pick the shoe style and select white for all of the colours http://preschoolians.com/dyo.aspx?ParentID=230 or even put on some baby blue accents to match his overalls!

If you joing their mailing list, I believe they send you a discount coupon right away to use on your first purchase.

This being the case, I have to admit--around sz. 7 shoe, ever mother of a little boy goes through a grieving process (I'm joking, but only partially!!) You're actually up against the age when your little baby boy starts being a "big boy" and, (frankly) doesn't wear things like white shoes anymore :D (Again, partially in jest! But, really, there's some truth in it!)

At about that size, I started putting on really nice brown nubuck shoes on my boys for dress occasions--even when they were wearing white. No, they don't look "cute" and baby-ish anymore. But, yes, they look clean-cut, and polished and--"boyish!" Plus, Dad is SOOOOO much happier with his "big boy" when they're not being forced to keep white shoes and baby-ish clothes clean!

Enjoy the world of boys!!! Enjoy the dinosaurs, monster trucks & aliens! I never thought I would, but I do!

Even these come in wide width, and for $12.99, you can't beat it! they would look great with his little overalls, plus, he could wear them again after Easter. Very practical:

Techno - I LOVE those shoes - but can't stomach the price for a seldom-worn pair. But - I am glad to hear they come in wides and will look into them for every day shoes.

Heyruthie - yeah...I know - he is not a baby any more. We have a couple of spring/summer dress outfits that were too big on him last year that I am hoping to use up this year. And - some of them are shorts. I could get away with the dark shoes with his long pants for easter, but was hoping for something more versatile for the summer outfits.

I pulled out this outfit to see if it would fit and my DH said - hey, that looks cute on him. I am almost spit out my drink. I figured he'd find it too babyish. So - I'll go for it for one more holiday!

Ok, sorry, but I just had to say, when I read the title to your post I initially thought "shoes for a white boy"??? this should be interesting ....as opposed to "white shoes for a boy" lol

sorry... lol

He could wear them for the occasion and then as regular running shoes afterward since they aren't special dress shoes.

Techno - that idea would work fine...except I just got him two pairs of SKR shoes during their sale and he is just into a pair of new balance tennis shoes for every day...

Yes - I have a shoe problem.

Mama Jo - a good reminder of how easily you can be misunderstood on the internet. That is pretty funny though! I edited my title.

Yes - I have a shoe problem. Makes sense. And I hear you on the shoe problem, I have one too. :)

I agree... payless shoes are great... not as durable long term as some higher-quality brands, but still some really great shoes.

If I can't find deals on ebay for sandals and other less-used shoes, the first stop is payless.

Grr....my boss called me down to his desk and someone outbid on a pair of shoes by $0.50! And - my payless only carries the shoes up to size 6. Anyone know if they run big?

Actually, since the bid increment was probably only $0.50, you have no idea how much the "outbid" you by, so don't beat yourself up. Their "high bid" could have been MUCH more. The proxy only brings the "final bid" up high enough to beat the #2 bidder--and no higher. I always feel better when I remember that.

I do think they tend to run big. But go try them and see :)

ETA: I don't know if "White boys shoes" is a whole lot better :) i think you're darned if you do and darned if you don't with the topic title.

"White shoes for boys" would eliminate the ambiguity. ;)

Hmmm. I did change it yesterday and it reverted back.

I know it is not a big deal - since you've all read the thread - but I will try to fix it again. I am changing it to: White Shoes For Little Boys.

Hmmm...I can change it in this post but cannot change my original post. Weird.
