Hello,
Further to my last post here: http://www.car-seat.org/showthread.php?p=781400

I have been trying to track down sources for the Sunshine Kids Radian. I noticed a thread on here somewhere (can't find it now) describing and photographing a new design with side bars and a narrower foot. I got excited until I realized the photos were posted in the US forum.

I'm wondering if anyone knows if/when this design is available in Canada? My seats expire in December, so I do have a limited amount of time I can wait it out. Although that might battle with my desire to find the elusive sale price.

Also - I can't even remember - is the base used ff? I know I don't have it on mine ff - the tech who installed it took it off. I get a nice tight fit because I have reclining seats, but I've done installs in other cars with no base, and the rounded bottom slid down the seat quite a bit - would keeping the base on help with that, or is it just an RF thing?

Thanks *SO* much for your help - you are the best place to learn the real life details that go with all the theory..

Kat

Yes, the Radian XT is available in Canada. The boot is only used rfing in order to get the correct angle. Where are you located, someone on here might be able to tell you where you can find it.

For forward facing you can lower the recline foot. In some vehicles that helps to get a better installation.

You can find a link to the thread you described with pics etc. in my siggy.

The base (the one that was redesigned) is used only for RFing, to get the proper angle. For FFing, there is a recline adjustment on the bottom of the seat that can be raised or lowered. There are only two positions, up or down.

Thanks!
I am located in Ottawa, and do drive through Toronto a few times a year.

So far my choices seem to be the Premier Radian at ToysRUs for $279, or the plain one at a Toronto Baby Superstore for $269. I haven't seen the XT anywhere that I know of, but then I haven't seen any seats in person yet - our TRU does not have one on the shelf, and I'm not ready to order one yet. I have a 48 that I bought at Canadian Tire about a year & a half ago, and want to replace my other seats with more Radians before the ones I have expire in Dec. I'm pretty sure Radians are the only ones that I can get 3 across the back, and one will rear face because I only have 2 anchor points back there. (I just picked up a raincheck tonight for two Truefits for my two middle row seats - I finally saw them in person and LOVE them, I can't wait 'til they restock!!!)

I wish there was a way to check the manufacture date on catalogue orders through ToysRUs. I'm not comfortable ordering a seat that I can't flip over and check out before it's mine.

FWIW, if you're considering XTs, I'd skip it for the one that will be RFing. The headwings can only be used once the child is on the third set of slots.

Kat - you can purchase the XT directly from Sunshine Kids at http://www.skjp.com/. All of these seats should be extremely new as I believe there has only been one shipment of seats into Canada at this point in time.

As for your comment regarding knowing the manufacture date prior to purchasing the seat, I know that Snuggle Bugz will allow you to request the manufacture date of the seat you would get prior to shipping to ensure you are happy.

I got my 2 Granite Radian 65's at Toronto's Safety Superstore (same thing as Babyproofingplus.com) in March and the DOM on them was 11/08. They had the new features (deeper channel, non-slide bottom, and smaller RF foot, etc. -- however, for some reason, they don't have the velcro on the straps to keep them open and the hole in the cover for the adjuster strap is a bit too narrow, for some reason). Despite the cover issues, I highly recommend buying Radians there. I got an amazing deal because they matched a competitors online price (I didn't buy from the competitor-Dearborn Baby- b/c they had 2007 DOM seats) and then still gave me the 5% twin discount on top of that -- which I notice you should qualify for. You should call ahead to see what you need to show them to get the twin discount (you may need to join TPOMBA http://www.tpomba.org/, which may not be worth it for the $40 membership cost). I see that juniorbaby.com has the champagne Radian 65 listed for $249, so perhaps babyproofing plus would match that for you (I don't know if they'd only match if you got the champagne).

If you want the XT, I found it online at juniorbaby.com and at dearbornbaby.com for $329.

Wherever you buy, make sure to check to see if they will give a twin discount!

TRU/BRU True Fit seats in warehouse should be no older than September of 2008. I haven't checked what our current display is for date, but I know when we were out of stock for awhile and then got more in all of them came in with mid Sept DOM. I have no clue as to what the DOM is on the Radian's in the warehouse, I wouldn't be surprised if they're 6 months old or so though as they're special order so not a huge turnover of stock in them.

As of today, they are discontinued at BRU. No longer can be special ordered.

Interesting. Wonder why they were there such a short time?
