My friend is starting to research her options for her infant seat. I have already filled her in on my opinion of extended RFing and extended 5 point harnessing of older kids, so i pretty much have her sold on that one.

She was asking me which infant seats are the best ones to consider (bucket style). I personally do not like the Peg one, i found both my kids outgrew them too quickly and were not happy in them (ie screamed all the time)

Ok - give it to me!!!

Honestly, I'm not a fan of the peg... it is a lot of money for a seat that only goes to 22lbs. I have only helped with one install but it was pretty rough and I have been told that is typical of the peg. I really like the graco safeseat or snugride 32... you can often pick it up for $150 or so on sale and it goes to 30 and 32 lbs. It isn't likely to last to that weight but it will get you a lot further than a 22lbs seat. The Graco seats often install nicely and with the lock-off feature it is even better.

Very similar thread (http://www.car-seat.org/showthread.php?t=78130), with replies.

I had a Graco safeseat for my fourth daughter and I loved it! She lasted almost 2 years in it (she's still under 30 lbs and she's 2.5yo, and she was over 9lbs at birth) and it was so easy to install and use. Of any carseat I've installed, this one was the easiest. The one "bad" thing about it is the weight, it's bigger and heavier than other bucket seats so if you (or she in this case) plan on carrying it around with baby in it... I'm not sure this is the seat to get.
We also traveled multiple times with this seat, using it on planes and rental cars, no problems at all.

Good luck,
Morgan.

Chicco Keyfit

Graco Snugride 32 (in Montreal pattern because it has all the bells and whistles and it's so soft ).

Graco SafeSeat 30

and I'll give an honourable mention to the Graco Snugride 22 with front harness adjust because it's tried tested and true so to speak, and for many families it works extremely well.

For Canada, the KeyFit is not 30 lbs, so in terms of value, it's not the greatest. In term of features, lots of people like it.

My pick would be the either SnugRide 32 and SafeSeat. Not sure which one is 'better' personally.

For infant seat with lower weight limit than these 2 and with good value, the SnugRide. Unless they don't sell the one with 22 lbs anymore now that the SnugRide 32 is here.
