Saw this...the new Roundabout 50.
http://www.pishposhbaby.com/roundabout50.html
Looks pretty good to me :) I want Cowmoo though! I wonder what the height of the top slots will be, better than the MA? Maybe I'll tell my friend to hold off on the MA until this comes out?

Isn't it the same exact seat just a 50lb. rating now?

Sarah Tilton has written that the previews are not necessarily what will be coming out, although if it's actually available for pre-order, it may be reliable.

No, the Roundabout only had 3 height slots.

no. there are 4 harness slots, so I assume a taller shell.

Ohh, that could be nice :) It also looks like the sides are deeper? I really wonder what the top harness height will be!!

That leaked flyer said it had 17" top harness height. I thought the consensus was they took the FPSVD mold and renamed it the Roundabout50?
Bit of a misnomer because what made the Roundabout so great was that buttery smooth adjuster...and teh FPSVD has the ratchet adjuster :(

OOO this listing shows built in lock-offs and the nice LATCH clips, which the original flyer said weren't there :)

i think you meant they both have a pull-strap adjuster, but that the roundabout's is a smoother one, right? ;)

So...it's basically a marathon only approved to 50 lbs(no hugs), and since most kids outgrow the Ma by height by 50 lbs anyway, it makes one wonder why one earth the Ma still needs to exist? What exactly would you be paying the extra $80 for???

I thought the FPSVD was basically a DC/MA/BLVD shell? Did those get bigger too?
And it makes you wonder why, if they did, the RA50 loses 5 lbs on the FPSVD (which is rated to 55 lbs)...

Nope...same size. They probably didn't bump it up to 55 because they want it to be 'different' from the Marathon.
This is their answer to the failed DC, I guess.
Oh lordy Britax....you have the potential for so much good in the world, sometimes your decisions just leave me going :scratcheshead:

Seriously, I do not understand why this is so complicated...for ANY CRS company!
All you need is one of each:
Infant seat
Convertible
Combination
Booster
(and maybe a really nice backless if you're feeling frisky)
Britax doesn't want to produce an ERF seat because of the cost involved. What is the cost of producing FOUR convertibles? When you could make one really NICE one, with a jazillion adorable covers?

because Roundabout 50 sounds catchier than 55. duh.
if the original post (http://site.pishposhbaby.com/blog/2009/02/06/introducing-the-britax-roundabout-50-car-seat-whats-it-all-about/) about it was correct, I'm most excited for the three position crotch strap.

Graco's sort of on the right track
Snugride32
BLANK
Nautilus
Turbobooster
If they'd convert the CozyCline to a 35/50 convertible, they'd be THE MAN! (and get rid of the standard snugride and crappysport, to save on cash and confusion)

Oh, the 3 position crotch strap would be nice, I'm this close to poking through the "do not use" sticker for ds2's FPSVD... [er, note to those without a clue, yes, I'm kidding]...

I agree about the ComfortSport, but if I were to find myself in need of an infant seat, I don't want to pay for or carry around a 30+ pound seat. I'd prefer the smaller and cheaper standard SnugRide if I needed an infant seat (I would actually prefer to start out in a convertible, but if baby was itty-bitty I'd get an infant seat.)

Well, in my perfect world, THE seat would look somewhat like the True-Fit...
It would work as an infant seat for the first 22 lbs roughly, and have a carry handle that allowed it to be plugged into a base. After 22 lbs it would convert into an ERF seat to 55 lbs, with no forward facing option.
How bout DAT?!?!

Interesting, and I wish it existed, but I'm not sure I'm sold. My 7yo is not yet 55 pounds. I think she's been ready to forward-face for several years now, but not ready for a booster until very recently. I like a forward-facing option, but I'd be okay with a minimum of 40(?) pounds to forward-face.
Maedze
03-22-2009, 05:27 PM
Oh, I didn't mean a forward facing seat COULDN'T exist, I just meant this was my dream rearfacing seat :lol
Most parents when faced with the option of continuing to use the seat they have or buying a new one (c-s.org parents obviously excepted  ) will continue to use the one they have.
If a seat that you bought at birth would fit a child safely and comfortably till four at which point you could buy, say, a booster or combination seat for FF...wouldn't that be SCHWELL!
It is avalible here http://comfortfirst.com/p-134682-britax-roundabout-50-convertible-car-seat-free-shipping.aspx
They have the weight limit wrong in the discription though.

So now they're making five, soon to be six, convertible seats? Or are they killing the Diplomat and DC? You've got the RA, RA50 (couldn't think of a new name there folks?), MA, BV, BV CS, and the new one "coming 2009" (Advocate? Didn't the Advocate fail sometime last year? Now it's back?)
PLEASE rename it. I don't want this idiocy of "make sure you get THIS RA" akin to the AO nonsense.
Soooo... It's a MA? Or it's a DC with a more trusted name? Or it's a... frog?

Amazon.com has it for pre-order for $199.99 with free shipping, it says it will be released May 18, 2009. So it's a FPSVD? Maybe the covers would fit the MA? Maybe they didn't create a new name because they are planning to do away with the original Roundabout? Man I really want to see the Parkway 120 now! It is nice that they have a HWH seat that maybe will be more affordable for more parents, then maybe more people will keep their kids harnessed until they are ready for a booster because they'd already have the seat. I can just see the parents registering for the seat in the store, "Hey, this one's a good price." Especially if they have cute covers. :)

Seriously, that's just bogus! I guess it's a basically a MA that you get if you have skinny kids so you can save a few bucks. I liked the shorter shell option of the RA, it made sense that there were two different seats. Now what's the point, loose 15lbs and save a few bucks? Please!

I guess I'm in the opposite camp. I don't see a problem with it and am actually in favor of it. Instead of a FPSVD+, I see it as a DC lite. It has the lever recline adjust, rf tether, plush covers and push on style LATCH clips of the other Britax convertibles- not to mention 3 crotch buckle positions. What's it missing? HUGS- can be a pain rear facing and are often missing ff; infant insert- the 10" height of the lowest slot doesn't make it a good option for tiny babies anyway; lower weight limit- almost no kids make it much past 50lbs in the 65 lb seats; harness pads- people are indifferent at best more often than not.
With an MSRP of $199, sale pricing will probably be $160-$170. That makes it a HWH seat in the price range of the EFTA but with a rf tether and the harness height of a MA and without the knob style harness adjust.

Good points! I've just never seen the need for the DC so I guess what I'm saying is that there are too many convertibles that do pretty much the same thing...

Aren't they having an overstock problems? It seems the recession is causing higher end car seats prices to drop, and lower end seats to raise their costs.
I'm willing to bet that they start discontinuing seats pretty soon- theoretically they could keep the boulevard or advocate as a "high end" option, discontinue the marathon and decathalon, and keep this seat and still probably sell about the same amount of seats they would otherwise. This seat looks like a marathon replacement.
They should have come up with a better name for it, though. The roundabout has a bad rep for kids outgrowing it too soon, if this seat is a completely different shell they should have renamed it, too.

We're getting it soon at BRU, and ta ta RA (which I DO NOT sell... why would anyone buy it when it costs more than the EFTA???). Frankly I think it's fantastic and cant't wait. Maybe the adjuster will be at least as smooth as the FR? I can hope. Slightly deeper seat pan would be nice, but not a nightmare if it doesn't have it.
I dreamed about it last night  It was going to go on sale so we had it covered with sage colored bathtowels, but really fancy lockoffs were sticking out (more Chicco-looking than Britax...man, who wouldn't want a Chicco convertible???? lol)

There are several of us that would have a HUGE problem with a 40lbs min for FF....
My 6.5 y/o just hit 40lbs, and she is too tall to RF in any seat on the market (unless you turn the Regent around, maybe? LOL, not serious! I know it does not RF).
My 4.5 y/o just hit 40lbs, and she is too tall to RF in any seat we own (and I am not willing to purchase another seat for a 40-lbs 4.5 y/o to RF).
My 3 y/o is, on a heavy day, 26lbs. I doubt she'll be 30lbs in the next year, and she is asking to FF. She, however, still fits into a SS1, so RF she does...in our Britax convertibles.
ETA: Minismom, I would buy it to save a few bucks. My kids are tall and skinny, and I have no need of the 65lbs limit of the big convertibles, but I (like most people that know something about car seat safety) need the height. My kids don't like the harness pads, I like the 3-position crotch buckle, not such a fan of the infant padding inserts.

The three position crotch buckle would be really nice. DS fits the MA except for that. Maybe it's because our MA is so new, but the harness adjuster seems pretty smooth to me. Maybe it's also because I'm used to our old Triumphs (the original ones) that were always getting jammed!
I think the RA 50 is a good option for people who want a Britax seat but the RA won't work and the MA is out of their range. I know I would have bought it as a new mom when my only option under $200 was the Triumph as the straps kept coming off the splitter plate on our Crappysport.

I think this seat looks great. I have a fpsv and love it. I would love it even more with a nicer cover and lock offs. I know that many people were upset when they stopped making the fp seat - I think this one would sell well for Britax.
