View Full Version : good angle, right?

So, when I do seat checks, I've been taught "It must be level according to the manufacturer's level". So, I've never really learned what is 'too upright' (less than 30-35*). THis is still within the allowed for an MA, right? This would be for Sofi, who is 2 1/2, and would likely be 3 before using the seat in this car :)
I got the MA to fit in a 99 Escort, with both front seats all the way back :)
btw- I know the LATCH straps need to be put away :) This was just a test to see if it could be installed, and the seat was taken back out.

It does look a bit upright, but for a 2 1/2 year old, I probably wouldn't have an issue. You can always use the top tether to adjust the angle a bit more.

I know it's not 45*. But for my DD, I don't think it has to be. I could get it more reclined by moving the base, but then it moves the head of the MA too far forward. I don't like the top of the MA being next to the front passenger's heads (the MA farther forward than the front headrests). I hit my head on the MA once getting in the car, I could only imagine what would happen if you hit your head on it in a crash

Please correct me if I am way off base, but I thought Britax said you cannot use the RF tether to adjust the angle of the rearfacing seat anymore?

I think Joni means that by using the RF tether, it would naturally recline the seat just a bit more by having the tension on it. I know mine always reclines just the teeniest bit more when I pull the tether taut.

That's about how upright I have DD's FPSVD/MA in our 1998 Escort. She seems happy with the angle, and I don't have any problems with it. (Except that I wish I could put it in the center, but with DS's Regent outboard ... no go. :p)

Yep. I wouldn't want to use the rf tether for much adjustment, but just tightening it to "tight" will add a bit more of an angle. I'm talking 2-3 degrees MAX.

Thanks everyone :)
It will also recline a tiny bit more when DD sits in it. Because the recline is partly broken

How do you mean partly broken? I guess I have to hear how it's broken, but my 1st instinct tells me that it shouldn't be used right now.

It doesn't sit totally in "recline". I called Britax, and the woman said it was ok to use... as long as I have a good angle and there's less than 1 inch of movement, and it is RF tethered"
I took a pic.... let me show you....See how the back of the seat doesn't sit totally flat on the base? And it is in recline mode.
I can install the seat, and snug the RF tether. Then Sofi sits in it (she's 25 pounds) and the tether is a little loose again (so I snug it with her in it). But it still doesn't lower the back of the seat onto the base all the way. What do you think??

Please let me know if you think this is ok or unsafe. This is Sofi's main seat, that's she's in 95% of the time.
I don't over tighten the tether, because I'd heard it could break the recline mechanism. However, mine is broke apparently. When I try to up it upright for FF, it takes some fingangling. But, it's been a few months since I tried...so maybe it won't even click into upright anymore.
