Hey all..my name is Kristen..Carseat advocate, and so happy to stumble across this site!! I have a peanut of a one year old..Olivia will be one on the 28th of this month and weighs 17 lbs. I fell in love with the symphony because she is so small the shoulder straps don't meet her shoulders, and the symphony fixed that prob. The only problem I have is when it is installed with the surelatch..the base sticks out about 3 inches. We drive a 2003 chevy suburban and she is in the middle. The seat is not wide enough I suppose. Is this okay? Any ideas?

Welcome :)
Couple questions:
How old is you child?
RF or FF?
What do you mean by the straps meeting her shoulders? If she is RF they can be below her shoulders. If she is FF they can be above.
When you say the base sticks out 3" or so, do you mean it sticks off the seat or it doesn't meet the crack of the seat by 3"?

She will be one on the 28th...keeping her RFing for as long as possible. The straps need to be at shoulder length. Because she is so little they where either WAY above her shoulders of she was to tall for the lower length.
Sticks off 3 inches and doesn't meet the back of the seat.

THe seat can hang over the edge of the vehicle seat by no more than 20%. So as long as 80% is on the vehicle seat, it's fine.

Can you take a picture of the carseat installed in the back of the car? That may help see if it looks like an okay fit for your car.

It looks like it might be OK, but it's hard to tell from a photo. Assuming everything else is right, the overlap doesn't look bad to me. Check out the Rear-Facing with LATCH video (http://carseatsite.com/videos.htm#rear-facing%20videos) and see if that helps at all. (It's not working for me right now, but I e-mailed the webmaster, and hopefully it will be back up quickly.)
Edited to add: Heather got back to me already. The video should be working (I think the problem was with my computer), but if not, here's the video on YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V5HnuYzFtWM).
You are right, with that car seat, the straps at always at the shoulders.
About the sure latch. Can you move them (without un installing) so they sit more in those little cut outs? If so, then tighten some more.

I find my carseats do that when the seatback is too upright, can you recline the seatback just a bit to help the carseat come forward toward the seatback a bit? Does that even make sense, lol...

Totally makes sense. However it is reclined all the way back. Thank you though.

I think she means the vehicle's seatback. If it's a minivan/SUV with seats that recline, sometimes it's easier to get a good fit with the seatback reclined while installing, then brought back upright.

The actual seat in the car...not the carseat..did not think of that. I don't even know if the middle seat reclines...now I'm going to go and do it. LOL
