Called local dealer and they said they would not install tethers b/c of liability. We have had other dealers install in at least 4 previous cars. Has anybody else dealt with this?

1999 chevy suburban

TAs are 3rd row. We need some in the middle row.

Usually dealers will not install anchors in vehicles that already have factory-installed anchors.

The LATCH manual says they won't add tethers to 2001 or newer vehicles, I'm sure the 99 has tether locations but no hardware (ok, I'm not sure, I'm guessing...)... will the dealership just sell you the parts and the instructions and let you do it yourself? Any other dealerships you can call? (locally here I've had one dad find that one dealership was awesome, gave them the part, one charged them $12 and were unkind about it).

Isn't the only tether anchor retrofit available for the second row of a pre-factory equipped Suburban (such as the OP's '99 model) an attachment to tether to an unused third row seatbelt? That's all I've ever seen or heard about here for the Suburban, and not any tether anchor hardware to bolt to the second row or floor behind the second row. :twocents:

Found a dealer that will do it. We have 2 tie downs that are also tethers but they a clear back by the doors which doesn't work with the stroller back there. Also booster kids ride in 3rd row and passenger 2nd row flipped forward all the time. So I need 2nd row tethers.

If there isn't an approved location and hardware, how are they installing them?

1st dealer had kits but won't install b/c of liability. So they are approved. Just that place won't do it. They are the only dealer that I know of that are not commission based at all. So they don't bargon with you when you look at cars there. It is a different dealership.

I'm fairly certain that the approved tether modification for a 1999 Suburban is the attachment to the third-row belt, so I am concerned about exactly what and where they will be installing. Can you ask to see the manuals to make sure you're getting safe anchors?

No, according to the LATCH manual there are NO approved places for additional tether anchors in the second row of a 99 suburban. There are tether kits, but they cannot be installed in your vehicle, as I said in the other thread.

:yeahthat: Nodding in agreement, exactly what I was trying to say earlier. There is no hardware beyond the part enabling attachment to the third row seatbelt for retrofitting a pre-factory equipped Suburban with tether anchors for the second row that we're aware of based on other Suburban owner's retrofitting experiences on the forum. I would be very concerned if the dealership is trying to do otherwise without verifying documentation at the dealership showing it's an approved tether anchor retrofit. :twocents:
