We have a 1999 suburban. We have tethers in the 3rd row, but little kids ride in 2nd row. Does anyone know the part #. The LATCH manual doesn't have it. Call the local dealer and they are looking for info.

I *believe* the only tether location for that are using an adapter that buckles into the female end of the 3rd row seat belts. I know I had a 99 and I have the part sitting in my kitchen drawer and I am pretty sure we could not get anchors installed (we only had 2 kids at the time, so I did not need my 3rd row seat belts, so I did not investigate any further). I know there are some picture on here of it, if you search or I can take a picture after we get back from story time.

For Chevy vehicles with tether anchors factory installed, there are no retrofits for any other seating position. Also Chevy now forbids using the seatelt from behind the vehicle seat as a tether anchor except where noted in the vehicle manual.

1st dealer said they could be installed but they would not do it
2nd dealer will do them monday
Using 3rd row belts is not an option as they are being used by older children.

Please note that you CANNOT install tether anchors in that second row per Chrysler. If another dealership has agreed to do it, they will be installing them in a non-standard, non-approved location.

Yes, I'm aware. Chrysler is the mother-company responsible for the brand. (GM). If you have your LATCH manual, consult page 167 for information.

I have LATCH manual 2007. All I read is that gm will provide and install free of charge for vehicles 1989 or newer. Is what you are seeing in the 2007 latch manual?

I think you're mistaken, Maedze. :o Chrysler is Dodge/Plymouth/Jeep, etc. GM is GM/Chevy/Saturn, etc. Chrysler and GM are separate companies - along with Ford they make the "Big 3". ;)

Hmmm, maybe it was updated in the 2009?
Two excerpts from page 167 entitled Chevrolet (GM)
Use of a Seat Belt as a Tether Anchor: It is not acceptable to use the seat belt from the seat behind as a tether anchor except as noted in the vehicle owner's manual.
Hmmm...it appears I'm crossing two pages here....we're talking GM not Chryrsler () I'm seriously having massive issues reading lately.
Then going on:
For vhiecles with Factory-installed tether anchors: GM will NOT provide tether anchor retrofit kits for seating positions in mY-01 and later vehicles that do not have factory-installed tether anchrs.
Which doesn't apply to you. .....
BUT...it doesn't list the 99 Suburban at all, so...yeah. I'll just stop talking now.

Yeah, there's no info on pre-2001 Suburbans in either the 2007 or 2009, and the general info seems a little contradictory. I tried to come up with some more info but it was giving me a headache.
(FTR, I get Chrysler and Chevy confused all the time. I think it's the "Ch-y" thing. I always have to think back to the movie "Roger & Me" to remember which one is GM...but that might be too obscure a reference. :p)

Despite the confusion, I'm 99% positive that it can't be done per Chevrolet as well -- I believe the approved tether anchor fix for that year was an attachment to the third row belt. I have concerns about this installation and suggest that you ask the dealership if you can see the manuals to verify that whatever they are installing wherever is actually approved by the manufacturer.

I went and found my suburban manual. Here is what it says:
"Suburban models: if you need to have an anchor bracket installed for a second row seat or a center rear seat, you can ask your dealer to put it in for you. If you want to install the anchor yourself, your dealer can tell you how to do it.
Anchor brackets for the third row outside seat positions are located on the floor in the cargo area."
It does say that canadian law requires that child restraints have a top strap and that the strap be anchored. We are not in canada, but you would think an 8 seater would have more then 2 ta. It is a family car.
I will talk with the guy when we take it in. The manual says you can do it some how though.
