I think my neighbors Tahoe is a 2001. We may carpool the kids for Kinder next year, and I was curious what the seatbelt setup is for the third row. Right now she has her 3 yo harnessed on the middle row driver side and her 5 yo in a booster on the passenger side. Plenty of room in the middle but its a lap belt only. I know she has a third row that can fold down, though I've never seen it used, but how are the seatbelts back there? Lap belt only too? Just wondering if carpooling is even an option. I'd buy a hbb for my dd to use in there, but only if there are shoulder belts obviously.

Shoulderbelts have been required for outboard seats in all cars since 1989, so the lapbelts could only be in the middle seats.

I have a 2001 Suburban, same set-up as the Tahoe just longer. The third row has outboard shoulder/lap belts, but only a lap belt in the center. The same as the middle row. It really stinks, I wish they had shoulder/lap belts in the center(shoulder/lap belts didn't come for those positions until 2004 or so), as well as headrests (that should be just plain common sense, and an easy expense to pass along to the consumer, as it wouldn't cost GM much at all.) I'd also love tethers for the third row. :(

Thank you!! I'm not sure what we'll end up doing, but nice to know there are shoulderbelts in that third row. This friend is a good driver, but does not restrain her kids well, so I don't know how I feel about letting dd ride in there. My dd knows how to be properly restrained, and is not afraid to speak up, so I know at least SHE would be buckled in right.
