I am looking to buy a lightweight stroller for my almost 2 year old. I am looking a t a 2007 Techno. What are the disadvantages to buying one that is a few years old, but new. I want to get one that if I have another child I will be able to use again. I am thinking between the quest and techno. Any recommendations?

Or what about another stoller. I was also Looking at the peg perego pliko.

But I think I am going with a maclaren.

This forum has been sooo helpful. It helped me research my Britax. Which I LOVE!!

I have a maclaren quest and love everything about it! I bought it to keep in my car for when I go to the doctors, dentist, you know...close quarters where my full size peg perego GT3 wouldn't fit.
I don't know anything about the older maclarens, mine is last years model I believe.

I had looked at the Macs as well, but ended up getting a cloeout deal on a Peg Perego Pliko Lite - and I love it! They no longer sell them here in the US but they are widely available in Europe, and you can still find them online here in the US. When I got mine I called Peg Perego to register it and still got the full warranty :)

What I like about it over the Mac is: useable storage basket that can be accessed very easily from all sides of the stroller, the parent cupholder, the larger canopy, the adjustable foot rest, the recline isn't as flimsy, I like the fold of this one better too as it seems to fold up more compact and the fabrics are very soft and can be snapped off and thrown in the wash :)

You can still buy it online for under $150 with most stores offering free shipping too....Here is a link to a store that has one with full specs on the stroller:

it all depends on what you want to use it for.

i had a pliko p3 and we loved it for our first child. it's a bit bulky and heavy but it has a huge sunshade and can fully recline and has snack cup. the basket is small but so are most umbrella strollers. i can also hang bags off the handle. it was good for my child when he was younger. he used to take naps in it all the time. it has a toddler step thing where a toddler can hang out and ride but it's for a tall toddler (have to see over the shade).

i've also used a maclaren triumph before. it's much smaller and light. great for little trips or trips where compactness is key (like going to disneyland) with one child. it's more for older kids b/c it has no snack tray and the sunshade is smaller. i don't know if it can fully recline. you cannot hang things off the handle without tipping unless the child is sitting in the stroller.

when i had #2, single strollers are not good. my kids are 2 years apart and the first one didn't want to walk yet. so i got a phil & ted e3. the best stroller for 2 kids IMO, or even just one kid. it's quite big, bulky and heavy. but it steers so smooth and easy, even with 65 lbs on board and very small footprint (almost like a single jogging stroller). it has no snack tray and the sunshade is pathetic along with the storage area. i do hang my bag off the handlebar and you can buy the bob utility thing if you want adult cup holder, etc. we use it for heavy duty trips where i know both kids will want to sit sometimes. it's also good for baby but we haven't tried out that feature yet. there are other ones with similar idea (the uppla with rumble seat, and valco with the toddler jump seat).

so conclusion is... there is no stroller that will fit everything. i have 2 right now (not counting the snap n go) and looking to buy a small compact one.

the only disadvantage (aside from the warrenty possibly being used up... but Maclaren has great customer service) is not getting the newest patterns.

I always recommend finding EUC or even brand new older models for saving money.

the techno has the full recline for a newborn, and extra padding, so if it's going to be used for a future child, you'd probably prefer that.

Oh, it also has adjustable handle height, so it goes taller than the Quest.

However, it is heavier, so if you wouldn't use it before 3mo old, the quest may be preferred for the lighter weight.

The peg p3 is a great choice, and one perk is the toddler steps on the back (good for kids over 3 who have the maturity and size to use them)... now on the regular p3, the steps can't be used with the seat fully reclined, but with the new p3s that have the reversible seat, that solves the problem.

However, you can always just buy a buggy/kiddy board or Strolli Rider (http://www.amazon.com/Happy-Swiss-Strolli-Rider-Switzerland/dp/B000H3PT9C) and attach it to your Mac.

I guess, as Kat said, it depends on what you really want. The Mac Quest is a great light-weight stroller for errands and quick trips into the mall. As mentioned, the basket really is not very useful because it is small and hard to access. And there is no cupholder.

I also have a Pliko Lite. I didn't think they were still available anywhere. If you can find one, they are great. The P3 is the same thing with more bells and whistles. I bought the lite because it was a good deal.

Things I like about the Pliko over the Quest:
Stands on its own when folded
More substantial seatback
Functional basket
Larger canopy that rotates forward
Cupholder
Not tippy

Things I like about the Quest:
Smaller, lightweight, great to throw in the trunk of my sedan
Pushes like a dream

Other than that, the Quest is not all that special.
Do I love it for what I need it for? Yes
Do I think it was worth what I paid for it? No

I used my Pliko Lite at an amusement park last summer for my almost 5yo. and it was wonderful. I had things piled on the canopy and hanging on the handles and it didn't tip. I would not on the other hand, take a quest to an amusement park. It may work for a stroll through the zoo, but not an all-day event where you're toting lots of extra stuff along. Just my :twocents:

The Peg P3 has adjustable height handles, child tray, and rear foot pegs for an older child. The Pliko Lite doesn't have those things. I would be happy to take comparison pics of the Pliko Lite and Mac Quest if you'd like.

what's the diff btw the quest and the triumph?

really? the new peg p3 has rotating handles? i really wanted that when i bought the p3 4years ago... i was waffling btw p3 and venezia.

also with the pegs, you can put an infant carrier on top. i don't know abt the lite but i can put snugride on the p3 and it fits perfectly.

the peg p3 was not cheap when i bought it. it is heavier than the other ones. but it was worth it b/c we used it a lot! my DS1 used to take naps in it when we go to grandma's or cousin's house. it's quite comfy and with it fully reclined, it's almost like a bed for the smaller child. with a second child now third, we don't use it as much. and you can hang a lot of stuff on the handlebar without it tipping... tho one time DS1 step on the step with all that stuff hanging, the stroller fell backwards with the baby sitting in the front. good thing no one was hurt. right now, it's our backup. i didn't like the aria tho it was so light... it felt flimsy.

one thing i remembered abt the maclarens... i don't like the foam handles... it just feels icky to me. but i loved how light it was!

peg p3- 16 lbs
peg lite- 13 lbs
mac quest- 12.1 lbs
mac triumph- 11.5 lbs

can you notice the weight difference btw the lite and the quest or triumph? also does the mac fold up smaller than the lite?

I am 5'2'' and the handles on the Pliko hit right around my naval, the Mac, about 2'' above. The Pliko has fold-down clips in the seat for the attachment of Peg Perego Infant carseats.

Oh, and to answer the question about the difference between the Quest and Triumph, I believe the Triumph has a drawstring-type recline mechanism and the seat isn't as deep. Otherwise, I think they are pretty similar.

One more thing :) The Pliko Lite was discontinued. Mine is an 06 that I bought discounted at albeebaby in early 08, so they may be hard to find. The last time I was at the Zoo, I saw a few P3s and I really couldn't tell much difference between them other than the handles and child tray.

Yeah, I need to capitalize the m and l so it makes sense! Lol.
Compared to a Maclaren, yes, I guess its bulky. But compared to a Graco Quattro, which is what I had before, it is small!

And I don't really notice the weight difference, mainly because it just stays in my car til needed. So I'm just lifting it in and out, not really having to carry it around. If you are wanting something smaller than your P3, then I'd say go for the Quest. But I'd buy used before I'd spend another $200 on a new Quest. I just don't think they're really worth that much. Yes, they do maneuver wonderfully, I guess it just depends what you're willing to pay for that.

I think the Silver Cross strollers look nearly identical. I just wonder if they handle the same? I see such good deals on them on Schnoop.

actually, the M and the L to make it 2 words.

quattro is a gigantor... no wonder u think lite is small.

hmmm... i think i have to go see the triumph and quest in person. there's a triumph for sale for $50 locally and a lite for $120, quest for $140. i think DH will kill me if i spend >100 on another stroller tho... :P

I have a 2005 Techno and LOVE it. When I bought mine it was new, but a year old so it was cheaper. I would not hesitate to do that again. It pushes like a dream with a newborn or a five year old. I love the adjustable handles and they are not foam like a pp mentioned. Other models are, but not the Techno. I purchased the accessory pack that is a cup holder/extra bag that hangs off the handles. I use this stroller a lot and it doesn't show any wear or have any issues.

How much heavier is the p3 than the mac's? It is a lightweight right?

Rosey

The P3 is something like 17lbs and the Quest is around 12lbs. I have had both and love both. The P3 is my full service bulky stroller that I use as a travel system with the SR. The Mac I love for day trips anywhere with older toddlers. Both push like a dream. I would not get a single stroller over 20lbs since there are so many great ones under that mark.

The quest has extendable calf support and four position recline (almost flat) whereas the Triumph lacks those two features. It has a pretty small recline. I also have a twin techno which I love and it really does support a newborn as well as a toddler.

If you want something small and compact then the Macs are the way to go. I got a quest off CL 1 yr old for $65, bought a Triumph for $40, and the twin techno for $150. All in EUC with all accessories. I also have Skip Hop bags which hang on the handles perfectly. I usually put older DD's backpack in the basket which is enough weight to keep it from tipping. Can't say enough great things about the Macs I have owned and they have been passed around my family. (my sis currently has the Twin Techno and cousin has the Triumph)! We are all Mac converts. My current love is the BJCMD so I haven't taken the Macs for a spin in a while.

I do get out the P3 for young kids, but it seems so bulky in comparison, and the cross bars from its fold do get in the way of the basket access from the rear.

I love my full size stroller but it is so heavy. I would like a lightweight but I want something comfy. I guess I will get a mac and take my full size on vacation. or do i get the p3 (because I am sure it is alot lighter) ?

i'm thinking abt getting a quest or a triumph...whichever is cheaper. likely a quest. the techno does everything my p3 does and a lot heavier. or not even at all and borrow it from my friend for occasional trips... :D
