Good morning, oh wise ones. Thank you for sharing all your knowledge!

Here's a question:
I have an expired Cosco seat (manufactured 1999) that someone gave me -- don't worry, I haven't used it! How do I dispose of it? Is it okay to put into a huge black garbage bag and kick it to the curb, or should I take it to the dump? I am mildly worried that someone might come along and take it, if they can tell what it is through the bag.
Thanks for any advice.

You can offer it to a tech for teaching purposes. They will make sure that it is never used for anything other than demonstrations.

If you are going to trash it, take it apart. CUT the harness straps out, write on the shell "expired do not use" in permanent marker, and if you're so inclined, smash it up some with a sledgehammer. Dispose of the parts in a black garbage bag. Put it at the curb at the last minute if possible.

The cover can be reused, possibly even sold. It's ok to keep if you want.

That makes a lot of sense. Thanks for your help. I guess I'll go vent my frustrations on a poor expired carseat! :p
