Hi-
I am expecting baby #3 and will need to buy a new infant bucket. My other boys are
5 1/2 & 6 1/2- so it's been a while since we looked for infant gear. We used to have an evenflo (I think) - It was a five point harness when three points were still popular. The problem I had with it is both of my boys were VERY tiny and they didn't fit the five point well - the crotch strap was too long so we had to use an H clip under the seat to shorten the fabric at the crotch so we could take them home from the hospital. (the crotch strap literally went up above their chin - LOL) Also the harness itself was REALLY hard to get tight over such a tiny body. And the harness slots were way too tall at the shoulders. (I can remember stuffing them with blankets.) Can anyone suggest a new bucket with a short crotch strap and lots of adjust areas that works well for small infants??? FYI- We drive a Kia Rondo (most of the time) and a GMC Sierra. (My luck I'll have an eight pounder this time but I want to be better prepared.) Thanks.

My oldest is 13, and my..how things have changed. You probably won't experience the same problems with most modern 5-pt seats. Initially, they were designed to be one size fits all, and generally had two harness heights. Things in the world of carseats have improved so much over the last four or five years, with lower bottom and higher top harnesses, multiple threaded crotch positions, infant inserts, and the likes.

There's a list of infant seats in one of the sticky threads at the top of the forum here.. that would be a great place to start--you can look at the features and go from there.

Once you've had a chance to look, post back with a few of the seats you're most interested in and we can go from there...

The Keyfit is a great seat for little babies. It has extra padding that can be used until baby is 11 lbs. It raises baby up a bit so the crotch strap is shorter, etc. You didn't mention an amount you want to spend. The Keyfit is a little more expensive than most seats... you can find it for $199 at tummiestotots.com.

I really like my Peg Perego primo viaggio. A lot of people complain when the baby is bigger the seat looks too small, so maybe if you have really small babies it would fit better lol. My child is still in it at 15 mo and doesn't complain, but I think I have a higher weight limit (I am assuming you are Canadian and those only go to 22lbs, I think).
