I need to know if it is safe to use an infant seat without the base. I have misplaced my base but still have the infant car seat. My infant seat is from Graco is only about 3 years old, it does not expire until 2012. The seat also has a lever on the side to make sure the car seat is positioned right in the seat of the car. Advise please.
If installed and used correctly, then yes, it is safe. Do you still have the owners manual?

As Judi said, yes, you can use it without the base, but a lot of people don't like the hassle for everyday use. It must be installed properly EVERY time.
You can buy a separate base for the seat, if you'd rather do that.
