View Full Version : Outgrown Infant Car Seat?

We have a Graco infant car seat that is rated to 20lb/26".
Our daughter is 6 months and 14.5 lbs (25 percentile) and 26.75" long (75% percentile).
When going by the 1" rule, there is probably about 2.5" between her head and the top of the car seat.
By Canadian laws, should I be switching her now since the car seat is only rated to 26", or can I wait until 1) her head is within 1" of the car seat or 2) she weighs 20lbs? It would be nice to have her in the infant car seat a little longer (because it's so cold out and to wait and see if the Britax car seats get rated to 35lbs....).
Thanks!

You can go by the 1" rule. Just curious, what is the date of manufacture on your seat? I'm a new tech and I don't know when they changed the height/weight limits. I thought the Graco snugride was 29" and 22lbs.

Thanks!
The DOM is March 2004, therefore, I assume that the car seat is good to March 2010 (6 years).
I've seen the link showing photos for the 1" rule using a "convertible"-type car seat - are there any photos of the 1" rule for infant car seats?

I had a snugride DOM 2004 that was rated for 20# and 26". It will expire in 2010. I believe that is was near the end of that range but I am not sure. I really wish I had a newer one or a safeseat.

This here (http://www.car-seat.org/showthread.php?t=30201)has pictures to help show you how to tell if your infant seat is outgrown.

Graco seats are good until December 6 years after the DOM.

Let me know if you still want pictures. It is pretty much the same as the convertible except it is an infant seat.

Thanks for all the info!!! I'm amazed with all the knowledge and expertise out there, especially since local help is limited in smaller communities. We take alot of time to research and check our car seats and it scares me that many people might not take the same time to do this.
Thanks!
