Okay, so I am babysitting my friends DD today. We are going to a movie, sledding, and to a play date so I need to get her seat in right.
Anyways, the cover doesn't line up with the top harness hole. It is about 2-3" off.
Why?! This bothers me

Looks like an Enspira. I'll try to find a manual.

It's an older 3-in-1 but I don't know which one. Enspiras have a head rest doohickey.
Is it possible that padding is supposed to be removed for the top harness slot? Or did the whole thing slide down? Is the lowest slot on the pad lined up with anything?

Uh, that is an Enpsira, but the headrest is missing. It is a PITA to use the headrest, but I think it has to be on it. Weird. That gap at the top is supposed to be where the padding should be. The headrest moves all the way up, but the bottom part of the headrest kind of covers the gap. It's a strange design for the headrest. When the lower slots are used, the top slots are completely covered by the headrest.

The padding does not move at all. It is attached.

Okay nevermind. Good question about asking if the bottom one lined up!
I checked and it doesn't! So I was like "What the heck?!" so I put my finger through the hole on the cover and guided it up to the bottom harness slot and it matches up which made the top one match up!
It looks like the cover is just saggy
ETA: Ya' know. I think there is supposed to be headwings. I thought the seat looked funny. I might just put her in DD's Nautilus and grab DD's booster out of DH car for DD. We gotta get going now~!

That's what I was thinking, that it had a headrest, but I couldn't find a manual. You can tell it's an Enspira by the funny shape of the top part.
I would not use it without the headrest if I could help it...

Yep, in complete agreement, I definitely wouldn't use it without the headrest.
OP - If you're able to, I'd consider mentioning to the parents that the seat is missing a piece, and a pretty integral one at that since there's EPS in the headrest. The headrest is a PITA to move up and down, so maybe it broke - or maybe they just took it off because it was pushing her head forward. But it needs to be on. I don't even think it's supposed to be removable.
The seat should most likely be completely replaced and destroyed...

I have no clue why she sent this one because the girl is usually in a ComfortSport.
I think she has made the "parental" decision to use it as a booster  which I have kind of mentioned some things about but she doen't care...:(

Man that really sucks... the seat shouldn't even be used as a booster given that it's broken. I found a manual online that was for the versa-shield model, but the main things like strap height and headrest adjustment are the same for them both... there are no instructions for removing the headrest from the seat, so it's probably safe to assume that the seat is broken. The strap guides are missing as well which I'm not sure if that's a safety issue or not - no clue if it contributes to reinforcing the shell or not... (Dumb dumb design to only put one set of strap guides and have to pop them up out and move them to whatever slots being used...)
At any rate, nothing you can really do other than not use it for her. Parental decision my butt.

It's supposed to look like this (even when used as a booster):

Yeah there is no convincing left. She has pretty much shot down everything I have told her.
From now on when she stays with us, she will continue to ride in DD's GN and DD will either be in her Apex or in her TB.
